I don’t understand why anyone would use a pancake mix. How much time are you saving? It only takes a few minutes to make a batter with flour, an egg or egg white, baking soda and baking poweder (or yeast) and/or milk or soy milk. Besides which, I use whole wheat flour and add the other ingredients aforementioned. Certainly, the addition of nuts, bananas, and/or blueberries is very common and adds greatly to the taste. If you must add maple syrup and/or butter, you may as well use cardboard. Did I mention I also add wheat germ and flaxseed powder?
Geez, you want to time how long it takes to get out the flour container, the baking soda box, the baking powder tin, the egg, the bowl to separate the egg, the measuring cups and spoons, the milk, not to mention the fruit…and then put it all away? I think you will find there is considerable time and effort saved by using a prepared mix. I happen to make my own prepared mix, in bulk. But please don’t tell me it doesn’t take any more time to do it your way. It does.
And now I am really, really craving a dish of Bisquick mixed with water. You people are evil!
You don’t add the butter. You put the butter on afterwards. In Canadia, put maple syrup on later (I don’t know why they do that, I think they must not have butter). And I believe wheat germ and flaxseed powder are the primary ingredients of cardboard.
