Pancakes

Mmmmm…potato pancakes…I just love those. I grew up eating those and topping them with applesauce. They were yummy!

I made red potatoes seasoned with various seasonings and real butter last night. They tasted mighty fine with the shoulder blade pork steaks I grilled. I seasoned the pork steaks with Holland’s Carolina Seasoning. It was tasty.

Sorry Bumba, I don’t mean to talk about carbs so much. But, I just can’t see myself going on Atkins, at this point anyway. Hubby is talking about giving up the ciggies starting Sunday, which means I’ll have to quit too, or not smoke in front of him. Sigh…I know it’s a nasty habit and I know I should quit, but I just don’t want to. Arrgh! Hopefully I don’t turn into a big grump.

Well, I have spent the last two days sitting through new employee orientation. God, how BOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRING! I found myself ready to close my eyes on more than one occasion, but somehow I forced myself to keep awake. Tomorrow I’ll go back to my new office and try to figure out what I do for a living some more.

Ham and cheese strata completed. It has garlic and spinach, too. I’m sure you were all waiting breathlessly.

My kitchen now looks like it’s been attacked by a pack of cooking-obsessed racoons. “Tidy” is not a word that applies to me.

I appreciate everyone’s expressions of concern for my welfare, but I have to confess that I may have exaggerated the level of angst I was experiencing just a teensie bit. I seriously do miss all the things I’ve learned to do with potatoes, tortillas, breads, etc., but I’m eating okay. And now I get to learn a whole bunch of new recipes, and get to experiment with modifing some old ones, which I love to do.
Tonight I cooked boneless pork ribs, (not up to my usual standards, but okay), garlic smashed cauliflower (kinda like mashed potatoes, pretty good) and spinach sauteed with garlic, (one of our old standbys). And I’m gonna get the flans out of the oven in just a minute. (got the recipe from the back of the Atkins book.)
I’ll bet I can even make my killer cheesecake with splenda. hmmmm…

Taters, please do stop smoking when Hubby does, you’ll feel a lot better, (eventually) and you’ll make thing much easier for him.

earthpuppy, don’t listen to Rue, he doesn’t know anything about belly dancing, send those pictures to me. BTW, do you have a camcorder?

Kallessa, that sounds like a mighty fine contract, better than most guys get nowadays, but you left out the margarita clause.

Dammit, :smack: did it again. :smack: The above post was actually Bumbazine. :smack: :smack:

Den Mum is my wife, just so’s ya know, and I was messin’ around on her computer, which is downstairs. My computer is upstairs in the belfry, which is quite hot at the moment.

My apologies.

The news is in! The news is in! I’m gonna have a great-neice and a great-nephew! Yep, the sonagram confirmed that my neice is having a girl and a boy and all the body parts seem to be growing at the right rate and all that good stuff! Yeah! New babies for Christmas! With little baby toes. Twenty of them–I’ll be in heaven!

I should explain that I’m not an infant person, normally. They’re cute and all, but when a co-worker brings in her kid or grandkid, I’m not one of the people that has to rush over to ohhh and ahhh and hold the baby. But, I really, really like baby toes. They are just so irresistible. I’ve got to play a little bit of “this little piggy” and go “toe, toe, toe, toe, toooooeeeee”. I just loves little baby feet.

Mom still thinks they should be name Petra and Petri, but I’m holding out for Denise and Denefew.

Happy, happy, happy.

Not to mention the bat problem?

I lived in Cincinnati all those different times and never learned what a cottage ham was until Rue’s post here. Now I need to figure out what a “city chicken” is. (Things you were always curious about but afraid to ask)

A couple of posts by FairyChatMom and BiblioCat got me thinking about food from other places that you don’t have where you are…

Anybody want to do a symbiotic food exchange? Here’s the deal: you eat some food that I crave and I’ll eat some from my area that you crave. The Eastern Shore discussion got me to craving Pit Beef sandwiches, OC fries, crabcakes and steamed crabs. I can get fascimilies thereof around here but not the real thing. Please eat some for me and in exchange I’ll eat whatever you want from Florida (Cuban food, grouper samiches, scrimps, etc). Or I’ll go down to the beach and watch a nice sunset and have a margarita or your drink of choice in your honor.

That’s good. I was getting a little nervous for earthpuppy what with the pictures and all.

This morning Very Cute Tile Guy[sup]TM[/sup] came to measure my floors for the Travertine. Methinks the otherwise tedious business of house disruption while the tile goes down will be very much molllified. VCTG is not of the burly persuasion (Sorry, Swampy ) but very much more my type with a cute ponytail and very cute legs…all muscular an all.

Ahem! Where was I, oh yes, so moving right along…the Rice-a-roni chicken/zuchinni/mater dish was quite satisfactory last night. Even Mr. Anachi liked it and had two helpings. It’s on the box of Garlic Chicken Rice-a-roni iffen anyone wants to try it.

Great idea, Shibb.
If someone will eat fresh shrimp for me, I’d be happy to eat something for them.

Sounds good. Anyone crave poutine? I’m willing to make the sacrifice. As for me, I’ve never eaten at White Castle, and I’m curious. Could someone eat some of their hamburgers for me?

What happened to earthpuppy? I want to keep on dispensing sage advice! Or possibly garlic. It’s usually garlic around here.

Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

  That’s one helluva straight line, MissTee…

Gotta love how we can get to three pages with mostly food posts.

I did/do Weight Watchers - which is a good thing, because I love, love, love bread. Fresh bread - even bagged, sliced whole wheat bread - I smell it, and I am in heaven. Mmmmmm.

And for my vacation (why can’t I leave now, huh?), I am going to be in Maine. Reception on Monday is a lobster bake - that follows the original reception Saturday, with a post-reception bar-hop afterwards. And of course, Maine means homemade french toast, the best meatloaf in the world, enchiladas, dessert(s) every night, ice cream, candy, fried clams, fried dough, fudge, fluffernutters, and every other bad food in the world. Whee! Roll me home - it’s gonna be ugly afterwards, but heaven in a cup during.

Susan

Oof. I’m glad there isn’t a Whitey’s anywhere near me. I don’t think I could handle the repercussions of making that trade.

Anyone up for some guacamole and Mexican food? No, really, I’d be happy to indulge on your behalf. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, looks like Shibb has dibbs on the seafood so I’ll offer up some good ol Florida citrus…lucious oranges and grapefruit and tangy lemons and limes iffen anybody wants to make pie or Margaritas. Oh, and our avacados are much bigger than the stinkin little ones that they grow in California so add some scratch guacamole to go with the Margaritas. Anybody gots any good Wienerschnitzel?

 (or what Bob said)

After I’m done blushing, I’ll come up with something. Maybe some Iowa Chops (did anyone ever disclose what those are?) You’ve got to tell us what Iowa’s famous for, food wise. Corn-fed beef, prehaps?

“City chicken” is some kind of pork on wooden skewers. I think it’s pork roast, but I can’t really say. Mom used to brown it in a skillet and then cook it… somehow. I never watched all that closely growning up. I just ate the stuff.

Lissla, if you have a heapin’ helpin’ of poutine for me, I’ll tackle a slider or two for you. With cheese of course.

Shibb, I’d be beholden to you if you’d have some Cuban (preferrably “Cuban food” since you’re married too) and Margaritas. Or Hurricanes, but that’s more Nawlins than Florida. But do what you can, OK?

I’ll do what I can. Probably drink coke or at best Mojitos with the Cuban food, so the Margaritas will have to be separate. They do drink Hurricanes here but I don’t think that I’ve ever had one. Also Rum Runners, Bay Breezes and Sexual Alligators (I’m not making that up).

So, any idea why they call it “city chicken”, one of the most unappetizing pseudonyms I’ve heard since “lake trout” (a Baltimore speciality which is not trout and may or may not have ever lived in a lake).

So I know what I’m having for dinner tonight. Are there any White Castles near Philly? I’m driving down there in a month, and I’m looking for fast food. I already intend to eat my weight in cheesesteaks.

Boy oh boy did I word that wrong! :o
Iowa chops are big thick pork chops. Generally they are stuffed with stuffing - on a lazy day I will use a box mix, most often I make my own stuffing.
I can not think of anything that Iowa is famous for.
