Sadly enough, I can relate to this description of Jim Carrey’s character and I’ve had so-called friends like Matthew Broderick’s character as well.
Anyway, the movie I really enjoyed that none of the critics seemed to like was Clint Eastwood’s movie, “A Perfect World.” I thought this was a fabulous movie and enjoyed Kevin Costner’s character as well as the kid’s. I remember critics bashing it for overuse of violence or something to that effect.
Years later, these same critics praise “Pulp Fiction” yet make no mention of the overuse of violence.
This is weird. Of the films mentioned so far I either really enjoyed them, or haven’t heard of them (maybe 30% of the films mentioned so far?). Except Dune, I thought that was crap.
I’ve seen The Postman, Cabin Boy and Playing God several times each. Being reminded of it makes me want to buy Playing God on DVD…

Minor nitpick. It wasn’t an alligator, but a crocodile. That being said, I loved “Lake Placid”
And Oliver Platt was the quirky millionarie, that studied crocodile and traveled all over to “commune” with them.
Was ‘Romeo Must Die’ panned? I thought the combination of stylized, goofy martial arts sequences and gritty urban warfare story was a bit odd, but I enjoyed it.
YES!!! I forgot about this one; Sam Jackson is CLASSIC in it
Geena Davis: Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Sam Jackson: I hope not; I’m thinkin’ about how much my balls hurt.
And
Sam Jackson on the Larry King Show: You know, Larry, I always like to be frank and ernest with the ladies. In New York, I’m Frank and in LA, I"m Ernest.
And who can forget
Sam Jackson: when you assume, you make an “ass” out of you and “umption”.
Yeah, that movie is good if only for Sam Jackson’s role.
Chet speaking, how can I help you? HAHAHAHAHA. Chet.
Fifth Element, UHF, and A Perfect World were all outstanding movies. Another flick I like, even though it is quite bad, is Meet Joe Black. Whenever it’s on, I will watch it without hesitation.
One that I had forgotten about came on cable tonight.
Bubble Boy
I’m the only person I know who’s even seen this movie. It got pretty godawful review, IIRC. But I really like it. Jake Gyllenhal does the innocent idiot routine pretty well and everything about this movie is just so campy and hammed up. It’s great!
I saw it on a recommendation from a fellow professor who absolutely loved it. It’s pretty funny and did not deserve all the lousy reviews.
Okay, that’s three people who saw it.
