For various reasons I haven’t ordered from Papa John Pizza for quite some time. It took several weeks before the emails with special prices, special offers, etc., began coming in.
Now I get a minimum of one email per day, sometimes three or more, and I’m just wondering if others are in similar situations.
For the record, whenever we want pizza or pasta it’s Roma. Papa John just doesn’t match them for options – and quality.
My story is that I don’t give retailers my email address, no matter how many coupons, forest-saving receipts or links to pizza porn they promise me. Verb. sap.
I don’t give out my email to businesses often, and I have a special email account that I give them so they don’t have my personal email.
Most legitimate businesses will take you off their email lists; there’s usually a link at the bottom of the email. When I get tired of hearing from them, I click the link.
BTW, Yahoo now lets you create disposable email addresses: you can give them out, and then delete the address once you no longer want email to it. Google doesn’t quite have this feature, but you can add “+keyword” to your Gmail address (user+keyword@gmail.com) and then create a rule to send messages with “+keyword” (You decide on the keyword) to your spam folder automatically. Gmail ignores anything between the + and the @ when delivering mail.
I have layers of disposable, redirected and short-term email addresses. I don’t give those out to retailers, either. There’s more to it than annoyance or purported benefits on an individual level.
I have given businesses my email and get several from them a day. Yankee Candle, Kohl’s, etc. I get a text from Papa Murphy’s about once a week. Wish I got more from Round Table.
It’s cheap fast pizza, not Gordon Ramsay-esque cuisine. As pizza chains go, it’s decent. $10 for a large with 3-5 toppings depending on the current promotion is hard to beat.
We don’t get bombarded with email from them, but do get some nice specials from time to time. Probably one email a month or so. Plus the regular mail coupons.
