I have a .par file at work that is supposedly an engineering drawing or model. It’s the only copy we have of that particular assembly. Our IT supervisor downloaded a couple of .par viewers for me (net nanny won’t let me do it) but I still can’t open the file. I’ve tried reading about .par but most of what I saw referred to USENET and honestly, I couldn’t make sense of anything I was reading.
Help! The company (gov’t contractor) doesn’t want to spend any money if it doesn’t have to but I need this drawing. Can someone point me to an idiot-proof viewer or walk me thru what I have to do to open my file? I can usually figure out how to do things, but this has me stumped, and it’s starting to piss me off.
The usenet .par file is irrelevant, thats not the correct file type
.par in engineerng is Siemens Solid Edge.
The real question is, what software (including version !) generated it, and what software are you wanting to open it in ?
A new version of autocad should open older versions of solid edge .par files
(You have to give time for one brand to catch up with development of the other brand… And then after some time give up on that occurring. You)
What CAD software do you have access to ? Did you try its open or import or convert features ?
here’s an online service that converts many formats.
At work, we’ve got AutoCAD 2009. However, my husband has Inventor and a newer AutoCAD on his laptop - we’re going to check whether it’ll open the Solid Edge file and convert it to something I can use. At least now I know what it is.
I’ve used AutoCAD since version 8, and last year, I temped at a place that had SolidWorks, but I’ve never used Solid Edge, so I wasn’t familiar with their file extensions. I knew the Teeming Millions would have someone to help me out!
