How does one become a parapsychologist? Or, is it self-proclaimed? Can one attempt to write a thesis in this area? Although experiments have been performed concerning the paranormal, the jury remains out - so can your thesis ever really be completed in this field? - Jinx
I found this, here.
Sounds like a unscientific title to me.
Why is there only one US ‘degreed field parapsychologist’?
Could it be the field is not recognised by reputable scientists?
And who assesses the ‘world’s leading experts in the field of paranormal research’?
Can I be ‘the world’s leading expert on the aliens that cause crop circles’?
Any scientific testing of the paranormal produces no evidence that the ‘powers’ exists.
So what does a ‘parapsychologist’ do - try to understand why people believe in such things?
In general, you first of all get qualified in cognitive psychology, and then get yourself some sort of paid academic position in that subject. Then, if you wish, you can apply to any likely source for research funds to study parapsychology. If anyone coughs up the funds, you’re a parapsychologist. If not, you’re not. Or you join one of the places that are already set up for studying such stuff. Bear in mind that if you are successful in your goals, a large percentage of your fellow psychologists will regard you as a blind man, in a dark cellar, searching for a black cat that isn’t there.
