Parenting. Yours, mine and ours

My brother and I used to try to rile each other up while watching TV. After a toy commercial:
“I bet you want that.”
“Do not.”
“Well good, 'cause you can’t have it.”
“Fine, I didn’t want it in the first place!”
“Yes you did. Ha ha!”
:innocent:

Yeah, my son is in the phase where he constantly demands attention and we are working on it. But he’s always trying to push back.

“Mama needs a break now”
“What if Mama doesn’t need a break now?”
“Hold my hand in the parking lot.”
“What if you don’t hold my hand in the parking lot?”

Combined with “How many minutes before X?”
“How many minutes before Mama doesn’t have a break?”
“How many minutes until your dinner?”
“How many minutes we clean up?”

And if you’re not paying attention to him he will climb on top of you with his pointy elbows so you don’t forget he’s there. (Which is unfair, I say, because it’s hard to resist a good snuggle. I suspect he knows this.)

Oh my God kid. Chill.

I miss his naps. He used to take nice long naps in the afternoons.

Someone mentioned toilet training. As I mentioned above, we were very lackadaisical. So when our youngest got to 4, we simply explained to him that since it was impossible that a 4 yo could still be in diapers, we must have gotten the date wrong and would have to postpone his 4th birthday special. It took him about 3 days to be totally trained.

Yep. Ol’ Granny used to say not many kids get to school age in diapers. If they do they won’t wear one the second day.
