Right, I mistook the slam on the wrinkly white haired guy and the cheering in this thread.

Hilton slammed McCain because he slammed her. His ad denigrating her brought her into the middle of this, not Obama nor his campaign. (See above for the source of the video.) The video is a total spoof on the campaign and only references Obama tangentially for the humor angle she is using to work. Any “cheering” you see in this thread is simply remarking on the wittiness of Hilton’s comeback and on the stupidity of McCain going there in the first place.

Nice way to hedge your bet, but Americans aren’t going to vote for who the MTV generation thinks is, like, ohmygod, like, so totally cool & stuff!

Since the Paris video has nothing to do with exhorting people to vote, Equipoise’s post topic notwithstanding, I don’t see what that has to do with anything – the putdowns by Paris and McCain of each other or this thread.
When I watched this I was impressed that the dumb persona Paris has cultivated all these years really paid off. She couldn’t have convincingly played such an airhead if we already knew her as someone of substance.
“…and I’m a celebrity, too. Only I’m not from the olden days…”
[QUOTE=What Exit?]
Dude! Please don’t tell me you really took that seriously? That video was nothing more than a goof on McCain.

Der. But I felt obliged to point it out, since the OP said “Paris actually sounds intelligent when talking about energy policy”, which some may parse as “Paris actually talks about an intelligent energy policy”.

Fair enough. I’d say she sounds intelligent, but the policy itself is rubbish.
Well, crap. When someone e-mailed me with a link to Paris Hilton being funny, I immediately assumed it was an attempt to rickroll me, and deleted it.
However, McCain needs to hire whomever made this for Paris. His original ad attacked Obama for being a celebrity – something that is of concern only to people who already support McCain. This, however, attacks McCain for being old – which is a weakness some of his own supporters are uncomfortable with.
Not only was this funny, it was actually a better attack ad on McCain’s campaign, than McCain’s was on Obama’s.

Yeah, when an old fart who doesn’t understand teh intartubes and who’s looking forward to figuring out how to some day do a google…

Just dropping by to say I thought this whole post was superbly well-written, and bang on the money.
CNN is reporting today – breathlessly! – that Paris did the ad in four takes, from memory. I’m not linking to the story because it’s one of their video-or-nothing stories and I don’t feel like actually, you know, watching it.
I’m not super impressed by her delivery. I mean it was smooth and didn’t sound stupid (to me her delivery was better than a lot of Bush’s delivery and worse than some, but not all, of McCain’s delivery), but it wasn’t great.
As has been pointed out, her energy policy doesn’t really make sense, at least not using her justifications.
