I thought I would create this thread since I thought this week’s episode was a nice counter-point to the Office, which still seems to be wildly more popular, especially here. I very much appreciate having a protagonist whose antics aren’t designed to make us cringe.
Also, this may have been the best Ron Swanson episode yet. His reactions to Ann describing her own party were just beautiful.
Ron’s actual birthday party was an incredibly sweet moment.
I like that friendship. In fact, I like the whole show. The town reminds me a little bit of the town in Newhart - where everyone is slightly off, but in a way where they all kind of work.
I was really into this show for a while but it’s losing me lately. Andy and April are getting too over the top. I liked it when they were more sympathetic.
Ron was great. I love that his birthday dinner had a huge steak AND a bowl full of bacon.
I like Andy and April and I think it makes sense that together they would fuel each other’s weirdness. But I agree the show could give them a bit of a break, and it would be nice to see more of Anne.
Sometimes it’s a real grind being a mom to small children - I think I’ll go commit a misdemeanor in Eagleton. Hopefully my cell will have a throw that compliments my coloring.
OP, I wanna know who the hell is watching The Office anymore. I have one sorta-friend who is not very funny who watches it, otherwise nobody seems to anymore (and yet the numbers keep climbing…). I can only assume it’s a totally different demographic now. As I recall, in its first season it was like the first show that captivated the upper-middle class in huge numbers. It was the darling of advertisers and it had great writing. A match made in heaven. Now it’s this stupid mind-numbing show; I haven’t watched it in 1 or 1.5 seasons, I can’t remember.
As far as Parks & Rec goes, fantastic episode overall. Any episode featuring Ron Swanson is good in my book. I think he’s the funniest man on TV right now, since Will Arnett seems to always exist on the fringe anymore. I’ll settle for watching his wife week in and week out.
On the downside, what the hell happened with Ben & Leslie relationship!? I thought that was going to materialize this episode…guess they decided it was better left to open next season with .
Nice episodes last night - watching them all get snookered on Snake Juice was funny, and the payoff with Ben/Leslie was nice. Between them and Tom’s business career and Ann’s new job they seem to be setting up threads for next season.
I feel like I am eating too much candy with them having two episodes in one night two weeks in a row. Now, next week we will all be done and I will be all out of Parks and Rec!
Oh well, it’s worth it for the straight hour of laughter that I am provided.
Loved last night’s eps. So much funnyness. You know what’s awesome? I was wondering what they were going to do with Anne. It seems like they were painting themselves into a corner and making her useless and not a very interesting character. The whole random boyfriend seemed to be going nowhere. But, then it came to a head with the fight, and giving her a job at the office makes a lot more sense why she is hanging out. Excellent job.
Loved the Neutral Milk Hotel call out. Yay!
I am glad the writing on the show has matured since the first season. I loved the first season, and I know I am in the minority. But, I do think everything got better with the second season. And, it has just gone up from there.
How funny was Rob Lowe sitting in the back of the car just gleeful with the banjo music. Ron is an awesome character for his curmudgeonly ways, and Chris is just as awesome for being able to see the positive in just about everything.
And as to who watches the office. Well, aside from me, that is. Going by my facebook feed a lot of high schoolers and college age people. After episodes air young cousins from both sides of my family from different states are quoting their favorite lines.
