It’s going to follow “Earl”, which I never watch, so it’s dead to me.
I don’t generally watch The Office, so I can’t really make that comparison, but I thought it had a few good moments. It needs more, but I’ll give it a few eps.
I stopped watching at the second commercial break. So you could put me in the “not funny” camp.
Now, I loved 30 Rock from the get-go. I didn’t laugh once during this show, and I like Amy Poehler, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, and SNL. I gave up on it with about five minutes left, and I’d be surprised if it isn’t canceled quickly.
Well if it does get canceled it’ll be because people didn’t give it a chance, like giving up on it halfway through the first episode. Looking back on a lot of shows, pilots are rarely that funny simply because they spend a majority of the show introducing the characters and getting the audience acquainted to everyone. I’ll give it a few more episodes (even though this one did manage to get funny towards the end) and then I’ll make my own judgment. I love Amy Poehler and I especially loved seeing a fellow UCBer in the first episode. This show has some potential.
I enjoyed it. There was a quite a few laughs for me. I think my favorites are the boyfriend screaming doorbell as she is right next to him, the blonde haired lady’s huge plans for that small lot, and the pancakes scene.
I like the characters. And, I like that as crazy and wacky as she is she has someone in the office that is kind of in her corner.
I watched this all the way though, for no reason I can think of now. It could be in the worst ten shows ever on television. How can people find anything funny about it?
Better Off Ted is at least a thousand times funnier.
So you think if there was a list of the ten WORST shows – EVER on TV, that this show would make that list? I mean… you may not like the show, but that doesn’t sound right at all. Do you watch TV? Had you ever seen the show called “Hole in the Wall”?
No where even close to the worst shows on television. It wasn’t fall-down funny (typical for a first episode of any show), but are you seriously grouping it with such shows as Viva Laughlin, Cop Rock, or any other actually-horrendous TV shows? Either you’re a pro in the art of hyperbole or just don’t watch enough TV to know of the truly worst TV shows ever. :dubious:
Did I say ten worst shows? My mistake. It’s in the second worst ten. Hope you feel better now.
I also forget to say that the only reason they set a show, in 2009, about an urban Parks and Recreation department in Iowa is so they didn’t have to have any real black characters. Despicable.
That may put it in the ten most despicable shows ever on tv.
Watch, somebody will come in and disagree with that.
Uh-huh. :dubious:
Yeah. It’s set in Indiana. Disagreement done.
Is Better off ted on at the same time or something? Why are you comparing the two? I have never heard of it.
I thought it was a pretty good episode. But, beyond that Greg Daniels track record is pretty good, as are the actors on the show that I know, so I think the show will pick up and get wheels and improve.
Wow, the reviews keep getting worse and worse.
Better Off Ted is a new show that’s only been on for a few weeks. It’s a single camera show, though not a mockumentary. The lead character does talk directly to the camera at times. It’s a satire, this time of life in a huge corporation. So it’s very similar in concept to P&R.
It’s also extremely funny, maybe because it’s not a mockumentary. Or because it has better writers. Or just because I’m not you. Funny is subjective.
And how will you hear about it unless people talk it up through word of mouth? Try it. Wednesdays, ABC at 8:30.
I thought there was a thread about it but search won’t work on such common terms. Oh, well.
I’ve seem Better Off Ted, and I’m pretty sure P&R wont be anything like it. I was mixed on the episode I saw.
Oh I wasn’t complaining that I hadn’t heard of it. Just confused why it was brought up in this thread. Just wondering what the link was. I got it now. I’ll have to try it out. If it’s set in a huge corp probably has a lot more in common with the Office then Park and Rec.
You don’t like mockumentaries? That might be why you disliked Parks and Rec. I like a lot of them when they have good writers. I really wasn’t complaining that you didn’t like it. Just trying to figure out what the other show had to do with it. Funny is subjective, for sure. Hey, I think Get a Life is one of the funniest shows ever made - the crowd that agrees with me is small.
I am gonna be in the minor minority and says it is EXACTLY like The Office.
Same camera work, same pacing, same characterization, same comedy, same everything.
And since I abhor The Office, you can guess what I thought of this.
Sir T Cups. That was actually one of my complaints about it. The main character is Michael Scott with boobs. But, since I love the office. I can live with it.
That’s a minority opinion? It’d be a ripoff of The Office if it weren’t being done by the same people (and even so, it still might be a ripoff).
I didn’t think it was like the Office, but check for yourselves.
