Parks & Recreation: series premiere (open spoilers)

The new mockumentary show from the adapters of the Office starring Amy Poehler starts tonight on NBC.

I’m still waiting to laugh.

Not one laugh, not one chuckle, not even a snicker.

This was horribly disappointing. Oh well.

I thought it was kinda funny.

The Libyan redneck guy was funny.

I was at a meeting with the city recently that was not far from the one on the show.

Rashida Jones is way hot.

Rashida Jones is by far the absolute only reason to watch this show. Just make her a newscaster and we can all appreciate her AND maybe even learn something.

And will probably be more likely to laugh.

This was horrible, being sandwiched between two very good office episodes only made it look less funny in comparison.

Agreed.

I liked the misanthropic P&R guy, and I liked the Indian guy. It was better than that Kathy and Kim, or whatever it’s called. That was a dog.

The first episode of The Office wasn’t that great either. It takes a few eps to know if something is going to work or not.

It looks like Poehler is the Michael Scott of the show, slightly too farcical. The characters around her aren’t that bad, but I think she needs to reign in the schtick to more believable levels.

I enjoyed the Pilot and I liked the Amy Poehler spunk girl character.

It was ok. I’ll watch it a few times, see if it finds it’s footing. It just seemed like a rather dull opening, but the Office’s first was episode was about as good if you ask me.

It was ok. I agree this kind of comedy takes awhile to really hook a person. I think it has the possibility to do so, and I will try it at least one more time.

(I’ve like the Office eps I’ve watched. Really liked the UK Office eps I’ve watched. I really really am a fan of Amy Poehler. )

Yes, more characters will make it more fun, but characters slowly arise in that kind of a show.

To contrast–another show that I will NOT watch a second episode of was that abomination that Bob Saget was just on. There was nothing there. And the nothing was painful.

I thought P&R was worth a watch. I laughed a few times. Poehler getting a broom to push out the drunk, the angry citizens with their creative complaints (I want to talk about Laura Linney), her using a travel pillow as a neck brace come to mind.

I wouldn’t compare it to The Office. The Office can be a bit dark and in some ways a sad comedy. I kinda feel bad for the characters after some episodes. Although Poehler is the Michael Scott of this show, it is a bit lighter and sillier so it is OK if they show her with a construction helmet doing a slapstick tumble down the hill. That is just plain silly fun.

I think it has potential. I really like Amy Poehler’s boss.

Not too funny but it did have a small (maybe recurring?) part with Loudon Wainright III so it can’t be that bad.

I thought it was entirely unfunny and I didn’t laugh once.

…but I felt the same way when I watched my first episode of both 30 Rock (which I was sure would be canceled before the first episode was even finished) and the American version of the office, both of which I now love. In both cases I had to waste a saturday catching up so I won’t make this mistake this time and I’ll give Parks and Rec another shot or two.

I was going to say I missed it - but it looks like I didn’t miss anything. I didn’t see it though.

Lady Mar-ma-lard was kind of funny…

Anything with Steve Karp’s dad in it can’t be all bad right?

Of course, I liked Rasheda Jones as well as some of the other characters.

I thought Amy Pohler was OK. I’m a little tired of her, but the tumble was pretty good. Some of her stuff seemd a little forced, like they were trying to prove to us that she’s this show’s Michael Scott.

I’ll watch it again. I have to, it’s Mst See TV. The name says it right there, I must see it.

Right?

I thought it was hilarious - but then, I also really enjoyed Kath & Kim.
