Parotitis the were-chipmunk disease

I went to the emergency room last night. It turns out that I have Parotitis on the left side of face. I look like a half-man/half-chipmunk. Fortunately, I have none of the other systems of Mumps so it is probably the bacterial version.

They gave me some IV antibiotic and a prescription for Augmentin. I have an ENT appointment for a follow-up on Monday.

The ER doctor’s English was not the most intelligible so I still have some questions.

How did I get it? Most of what I found on the internet discussed post-operative infections and the elderly. I am 38. Could it be something I ate? I took a shower in gym that morning. Could I have gotten off a towel through a tear duct?

How long does this usually last given the antibiotics I am taking?

Viral transmission occurs through inhalation of respiratory droplets, or by direct person to person contact.

Been French Kissing any mumps sufferers lately?

The joys of sialo-adenitis.

Suck on lemon drops. And no, it wasn’t from a gym towel.

Qadgop,

Thanks for the links and the advice.

SavageNarce,

If it was viral Mumps, I’d have worse problems than a funny-looking face. Sadly, I haven’t been French kissing anyone lately.
