I noticed I was being ignored (just cuz you think I’m baroque), and I figured I’d fix that. I needed something to give myself an air of authority, and what better to give me that than a hat like this–the one the woman on the right is wearing? Now folks will pay attention to me–at least they will as long as I’m wearing it.

Well, after rereading all of these guess are wrong. I am officially clueless except for Doloris but I’ve got nothing beyond what I’ve guessed there. 
I didn’t know Dung Beetle was in the Navy?! 
Well, considering she is a mother, IIRC, I’d have been shocked to have met her in the Navy, since I was in back in the dark ages - when women weren’t allowed aboard combat vessels.
