Passage from The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I’m not sure which book it is is, but can someone post (or point) me to the paragraph where Arthur Dent goes into this torture room (forgot the name) and in there he gets exposed to the infinite smallness of Earth and his place in the Universe. It was supposed to drive anyone insane but he just walks out and says something like, “ok, now what?”

It’s in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, it was Zaphod Beeblebrox, and it was called the Total Perspective Vortex.

Chapter 11.

What do you need to know about it?

I believe you’re thinking of the Total Perspective Vortex.

Also, it was Zaphod, not Arthur who came out unscathed.

Lastly, (and this is where your Peril Sensitive Sunglasses should go dark), this is IMHO more of a Café Society thread than a GQ.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Cafe society? I wanted the passage & book not a discussion about the work.

Well, if I posted here in error, my apologies to all involved!

Actually, I wasn’t junior modding so much as looking for a reason to refer to PSS

:stuck_out_tongue:

Also, the reason he comes out unscathed is because

he entered a parallel reality in which he actually WAS the most important person in the universe.

Book discussions go better in Cafe Society. Moved.
