This is indeed mundane and pointless. But it was such a bad day I decided to post here rather than stand in my office and scream…
I was to fly to the UK tonight. I didn’t want to go so I ignored it for as long as I could (I do that.) This means I packed this morning. While packing I noticed that my Passport was not in my luggage. I always leave it in my luggage because it is the only place that I use it. Today it was not there. Oh! You had your laptop with you last time, maybe you put in the case. Drive to work, its not there. :smack: What’s that? You actually flew before you bought the house last year? Maybe it is in the important documents not to be lost box. Rush home. Hooray! it is there. But wait! What is this? It expired in February. :wally :smack: And now I’m rushing around trying to get a new one. Life sucks today.
I once had to get a new one inside of three weeks (remember kids: always empty pockets before putting jeans in washer!). That was enough of a pain, can’t imagine having to do it in a single day.
Got a new one just 2 weeks ago. Order on Thursday night, hand over photo, pay EUR 36, pick up very high-tech plastified passport with embedded print of photo, holograms, and other nifty tricks the next Thursday.
Naw, I won’t be. I coulda tried to drive to Philly and might have gotten one and might have then been able to catch a flight, but that was way too many maybes and also too much like work. However, I will be flying Wednesday. Seems that if you have enough money, you can get a 24 hour turn around AND have it fedexed to you…
And so, I’m off to fedex the new photos, old passport and all the money.
When I was 21, I couldn’t find my passport. I didn’t need it to travel; I needed it for a second form of ID, and it was one of the only two allowable option. Long story made very short: I didn’t make my deadline either, and replacing a passport while you’re in your own country is hell in its own way.
Weeks later, it turned up in my mother’s briefcase. Her locked briefcase. Where I did not put it.
She laughed at me. Laughed and laughed and laughed. Why hadn’t I thought of looking in there? Yes, of course: when I lose something of mine, the first place I should check is someone else’s locked briefcase. :smack: And I repeat: I did not put it there. I don’t know how it did get there, but it wasn’t my doing.
I dropped my sister and mum off to the airport only to discover that my sister’s passport had expired. Mum went off on trip. Me, sister, grandparents and various other sundry spent a day rushing around getting another passport.
