past Q on Daddy Long Legs

A bit ago, someone posted a question in regards to Daddy Long Legs, the spider. Of course it’s not a true spider. Daddy Long Legs, also named Harvestman (order Opiliones) do not have poison glands and are unable to produce silk. I have obtained this information from “Bugs of British Columbia” by John Acorn and Ian Sheldon, page 143. And as always the research goes on and on, with each man (or woman) finding new information according to their own interpretations.
Have a great day,
Annamaria

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, Annamaria, we’re glad to have you here.

A couple of points.

First, if you are referencing an older question, it is helpful if you just post in that thread, however old. Saves people running all around looking for what the heck the original question was.

Second, if you want to start a new topic, please at least provide a link to the older question. Otherwise, everyone uses the search engine to try to find the older question, and that slows the boards down considerably. In this case, the older discussion is here: Daddy long-legs

And finally, the discussion was raised in response to a Staff Report. If you go to our Home Page and to the section called Search Archives, you will find the Staff Report that answers the original question. If you read that, you willl see that all the points you raise were made in the Staff Report. Here’s a link to the Staff Report, way back when: Is a Daddy Long Legs the most poisonous spider?
