Below, a link to Pat McCurdy’s site. (& one of my favourite songs of his…)
God loves capitalists more than communists
God loves fundamentalists more than Methodists
God loves Americans more than Canadians
God loves nuclear power…
Anyone in the house ever seen him play?
I saw him in Chicago (Lounge Ax, I think), but that was a few years ago. Thought he was brilliant, so many witty and satirical songs, cutting into the concepts of the American dream and religious fundamentalist ideals. Really good night out.
What does anyone else think? Seen him, heard him, good, bad, indifferent?
This thread has been inspired by many big debates and other threads…
I’ve seen him. The first time was at Summerfest (a nearly 2-week long music festival in Milwaukee), and he plays a weekly gig in Madison (I go to the UW). I have to be in the right mood–the shows I’ve been to seem to cater to the typical frat-boy college crowd. Sometimes I don’t feel like behaving like a drunken ass. But I’ll give him credit–some of his songs are damn witty.
Only seen him once, passing through, and perhaps the memory is nicer than the event actually was. But I had a good laugh then.
(mumble)…and I was very, very drunk…(Fast Show humour)
I saw him about 20 years ago. Pat McCurdy and the Men About Town I think was his band. He had a good song, ‘East Side Kids’ if I remember correctly…?? haven’t seen him since even though he plays around about 8 times a week.
The show back then was pretty good, but can’t remember it much, I was in college and beer was cheap.
I’m sure he’s at Summerfest this week or next, go on up if you live in Chi., not sure where Norn Iron is. Otherwise he seems to split his time between Milw & Madison.
I used to live near him in Milwaukee’s east side. He almost ran me over in his pickup one time.
There was a while where it seemed like I couldn’t get away from him. I was in Door Co., and went out with friends, and we wound up at the English Inn (I think) and he was playing. Then a couple days later I was back at school at St. Norbert, and he was playing there. Then a few days after that I was visiting friends at Marquette and he played in the union there, and after that we were out on North Ave, and he was playing at one of the bars my friends wanted to go to. I’ve probably seen his show five or six times, and only a couple of those times did we go to see him. I’m not really his biggest fan by any means, but I respect the amount of work he puts into it. He once told a friend that he puts on about 360 shows a year, and i have no reason to not believe that number.
Ahhhhhh. Jolly good then. Guess you won’t be making it to Summerfest tomorrow. I would have bought you some of our watered down beer.
Buckgully, Looks like June is an easy month for him. He’s only working 27 days, but 4 of them are double shows. Then again there are worse performers that could be following you around…
I’m a pretty big Pathead, but unfortunately I’m too poor or too busy to catch him every Tuesday here in Madison. I agree there’s a bit of a frat boy atmosphere, but I think there’s a lot of geek rock in his stuff too. I’ve heard him compared to Jimmy Buffett a lot, which isn’t too far off the mark. I’ve never seen a guy who has enough stage presence to hold an audience single handedly like he does.
