I must have imagined it - anyway I thought it was dark and funny and oddly enough the folksy music performances fit perfectly. No one else I’ve talked to seems to have heard of it though.
Fun fact - the big assassin guy is Tony Fitzpatrick - I grew up in the same town as him and bumped into him on a few occasions as we had some friends in common. I know who he is but I don’t think we ever said 5 words to each other. I did attend one of his art shows WAY back in the day, maybe '82 - he’s talented.
Nice! I thought it was awesome when John was singing about how easy it was going to be to steal the grocer’s gun, and then afterward sang about how fucked up it was
I was at a holiday party a few weeks ago and someone recommended it. Based on the previews I’d seen I had low hopes. Man oh man, was I wrong. I feel like they made it just for me (the last time I felt that way was this SNL skit). Great writing, nuanced acting (even the minor characters), and a story that never failed to surprise. It wasn’t perfect but it was pretty damn close. I plan to rewatch the series again, and hope that season 3 is in the cards.

I just discovered this show a couple of weeks ago and binged both seasons. I love the tone: dark, deadpan humor, sometimes absurdist. A definite Coen Brothers vibe. The actors are all great, the directing and cinematography is excellent, and I like the European setting.
The bachelor party episode in S2 is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while.
There were some good bits here and there, e.g., the police officer from Luxembourg.
And they just wasted Kurtwood Smith!
Those openings where the father’s talking to the cameras serve no purpose at all. Jumping around in time has to be done perfectly or it is a disaster. This is the latter.
[del]Piper’s[/del] John’s brother is just a red shirt.
Terrible people doing terrible things to innocent people. Well, that’s a laugh and a half. :dubious:
I just finished the first season and I loved it. It reminds me of the Coen movie Burn After Reading. Great characters, great acting and some really fine cinematography. I’ll start Season 2 next weekend.
Yup, I loved it. I’m just starting Season 2. I was amazed that they made a second season, and pleased about what that implies about human nature. It’s weirdness certainly appealed to me, but I did not think it would be popular.
As far as I have been able to find, there has been no announcement yet about whether there will be a season 3 or not. I believe the show’s creator/writer/director wants to do one, but it is up to Amazon.
I saw the thumbnail for this show on Amazon, and gave it a hard pass. I thought it was just some sort of American Sniper knockoff show that wouldn’t interest me in the least.
Then I listened to part of a Harmontown where Dan had the creator of the show on. I don’t know if the creator got much of a chance to even speak, because Dan was gushing over the show so hard.
I decided to give it a shot, and pretty soon I had binged both seasons, just this week. I will be re-binging with my wife, probably starting next week. I loved the dark humor, the understated goofiness, the clever call-backs, and the precise amount of surreality. Overall an excellent show, to boot. It does get a little slow here or there, and a little too downbeat for my tastes at times, but this diminished my enjoyment only by a little.
The show takes some really interesting story-telling risks of a sort I haven’t seen often enough. I hope Amazon picks it up for a third season. Either way, though, I’ll be keeping an eye out for Steven Conrad.
Canceled.
Not surprising, since a lot of people have never even heard of this show, but still disappointing. At least there were no big cliffhangers in the season 2 finale, and there was some emotional resolution for John.
