Patriotic Playlist - Need Answers Fast

Tomorrow morning, my boss is being sworn in as an American citizen. So we’re throwing a surprise over-the-top 4th of July-type celebration for him with decorations, cake, and red, white, and blue mardi gras beads all around.

I just realized what’s missing - music!

Could you help me come up with a list of fun patriotic songs? I’m having a senior moment here and failing to think of anything but Coming to America by Neil Diamond, which is totally perfect, but I ain’t putting it on repeat. Therefore, I turn to you for help.

The songs should be upbeat, non-controversial, and pro-American. Cheesy stuff is fine.

Some country songs would be great, by the way. Note that we’re city mice, so it’s not likely we’ll be familiar with songs that haven’t achieved some mainstream popularity. But still, what’s more American than country, right?

Lee Greenwood, god bless the USA.

Charlie Daniels, in America

YMMV

Barf.

Country? You can’t miss Steve Earle’s City Of Immigrants:

And while you’re at it, might as well add in Woody Guthrie’s This Land Is Your Land.

don’t they have some kind of patriotic playlist on Pandora?

Don McLean, American Pie

Don’t have Pandora, but I’m sure I could find something on Spotify.

I know where to get results. I’m asking you guys because I’ll get the RIGHT results.

(thanks for the suggestions so far)

I’m not sure that barf is particularly American. I’m pretty sure people are doing that all over the world.

The deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper is not patriotic.

Only In America-Brooks & Dunn

Yes it is, very recognizable and catchy beat. I bet it will be the one everyone sings along to, at the party.
American Pie is the bomb.

How about some good ol’ “patriotic music”?

Yankee Doodle Dandy

You’re a Grand Old Flag

And you can’t have a celebration of America without John Philip Sousa

The Washington Post March

Stars & Stripes Forever

Awesome, guys!

List so far:
Coming to America - Neil Diamond
God Bless the U.S.A. - Lee Greenwood (How could I have forgotten this one?)
In America - Charlie Daniels Band
Only in America - Brooks and Dunn

A song called Where The Stars & Stripes & The Eagle Fly by Aaron Tippin auto-played after the Brooks and Dunn song. Never heard of the song or the guy, but it’s great too. “There’s a lady who stands in a harbor…” Well, the fact that we can see the lady from where we are doesn’t hurt.

Beckdawrek - American Pie is depressing as fuck.

Cool song. I added it to my personal playlist. Just a little too serious somehow for this party.

Aw, crap, man, I just watched the video for that, and I’m in tears. I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t think about 9/11 in some way.

I’m not obsessive. I just work on the Hudson waterfront.

Johnny Horton’s Battle of New Orleans, especially if your boss is currently a subject of the queen.

American Pie is upbeat. Not everybody knows all the story of the song. They know the catchy chorus.
Do me a favor and play it once and then report back. I really want to know.
And that Tippin song will be a downer, IMO.

“America” by Pain of Salvation

Also, “America” by Simon & Garfunkel, optionally the 10-minute cover version by Yes.
“Drunk Americans” by Toby Keith
“Illegal Alien” by Genesis
“I’m American” by Queensryche
“American Woman” by The Guess Who
“American Girls” by Triumph
“American Girl” by Tom Petty
“Bullet the Blue Sky” by U2 - doesn’t have America in the title but is very much about America.

“Living in America” - James Brown

And if you’re going to play the national anthem, definitely go with Jimi Hendrix’s version.

“Living In The USA” – Steve Miller Band (Somebody give me a CHEESEBURGER!)
“Suite Madame Blue” – Styx (Americaaaaa…AMERICAAAAAA!)

Y’know, when the OP tells you “no thanks” that’s a great time to just fucking drop it, don’tcha think?

Also, you’re completely wrong.

Also, “Kids in America” – Kim Wilde

“Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean.”
