Well being snotty about it is just mean. Play it/Don’t Play it. Whatever. Why are you responding for the OP? You got a horse in the race?

buddha_david wins the thread. I’m thinking about those songs and laughing my ass off. Especially “Illegal Alien.”

p.s. I’m rather entranced by Pain of Salvation now. Thanks for the link.

America the Beautiful

I would have been a LOT snottier.

Livin’ in the USA-Linda Ronstadt

City of New Orleans-Arlo Guthrie

Holy shit. It’s one of the best songs ever written. It’s also completely and obviously not what in the spirit of what is being requested in the OP.

It’s also not in any way upbeat. If you think that you have missed the point in a big way.

Whatever helps you get through the night. I won’t bother you again.

A couple from John Mellencamp that I like:

The Americans

Our Country

And one from Skynyrd:

Red, White, and Blue

Okay, okay I got it. Excuse me for having an opinion.

Maybe Simon and Garfunkle’s “America.” It might not be what you’re looking for.

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin’ this’ll be the day that I die…
Well I feel uplifted as shit.

Take me out to the ballgame. It’s not specifically patriotic, but it is very American. The Carly Simon version should be easily available on any steaming service.

“Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.

The real problem with “American Pie” isn’t so much that it isn’t about American pride (it isn’t), it’s that its four hours long. If you play that song it’ll still be playing when the party’s over and no other song would have been played.

I love me some Muppets, but our new countryman deserves to hear it the way God intended:

The real problem I have with American Pie is that when I try to sing it, it comes out as being about Naboo, Qui-Gon, and some kid named Anakin.

I was going to suggest Paul Simon’s American Tune, but after listening to it (in my head), I realized that won’t work.

How about John Mellencamp’s R.O.C.K. in the USA or Little Pink Houses?

Or Neil Diamond’s America?
mmm

Immigraniada by Gogol Bordello

And now, having been well and truly ninja’d, I’ll see myself out.

Hi, I’m back. Not necessarily uplifting, but upbeat, bouncy, catchy and high-energy fun is Only in America, by Jay and the Americans.

You might try the Star Spangled Banner. Double points if the honoree’s name is Jose, so you can sing “Jose can you see?”
