I have a 1985 Corvette, and back in the day I bought it from my Dad. He stored it a lot and didn’t drive it much. Thing handled like a beast - all over the road, even at highway speeds. (Not that it’d go huge anyway; it’s an automatic and the base model. So, performance for '85 maybe, but now? Not so much.) It needed new tires, badly.
Took it in for new tires - after he replaced them, the service guy asked me how old the tires were. I wasn’t sure; they coulda been the originals for all I knew. (This was a while back, they still might have been 15 years old. Which isn’t cool.) Service guy said, “Yeah, we knew they were old. Rubber was all cracked. Those were dangerous.” And they were.
After the tire change? Night and day. Car handled like a kitten, smooth and awesome.
9 year old tires, on a performance car like that? Oof. Scary.
The tire issue alone is going to sink any lawsuit, IMHO. Culpatory negligence leading to the primary cause of loss of control, at greatly excessive speed.
Issues with safety and passenger protection will be a slim hook for a modest good faith and public image settlement by Porsche.
