The thing that bugs me about the Pickers guys is the amount of whining and complaining they do about the people they go to. The junk seller/ hoarder won’t budge on an item because they know they are getting low-balled or they just don’t want to part with the item. Ichabod Crane and the one who looks like Michael Madsens’ rapey friend in Kill Bill vol. 2- try to make it sound like theres something WRONG with these people that they don’t want to sell an old rail-road sign for a quarter. They know the guys are just going to turn around and try to sell it.

They are just driving around stocking their store. I wonder what those things actually sell for when they claim a value after they buy it.

Sometimes they say “Valued $300,” and sometimes they say “Sold $300.” It appears that a lot of the items already are sold by the time the show appears.

Did anybody see the episode of Pawn Stars where a guy came in with a gambling kit? After an expert appraised it at thousands of dollars the owner decided against selling it and Rick kept offering more and more money. You could tell he was desperate to get his hands on it and went up pretty high, but the owner still said no. I was surprised that
A. The decided to keep it after finding out it was worth way more than he thought.
B. Rick was so desperate.

Rick has said before that anything related to gambling sells really well in his store. He’s also like that with any kind of Vegas memorabilia.

As I said in the other thread, their business model seems to be, “buy for one-third the value, sell for two-thirds”. Rick seems to run the business fairly honestly, at least when the cameras are on him. But I bet the Old Man pulled some really shady deals in his heyday. I just get that vibe from him.

The entire cast is carny through and through. Better at kayfabe than most wrestlers.

In case anybody else was unfamiliar with the word, I looked it up:

In professional wrestling,*** kayfabe ***(pronounced /ˈkeɪfeɪb/) is the portrayal of events within the industry as “real”. That is, the portrayal of professional wrestling as being genuine or not worked. Referring to events or interviews as being a “chore” means that the event/interview has been “kayfabed” or staged, or is part of a wrestling angle while being passed off as legitimate.

What a great word to know and one that’s relevant pretty much every day. (Most 24/7 news channels could have the call letters KFBE in its honor.) Thanks!

On an unrelated, but potentially amusing note, I’m wondering if they will make some kind of reference to Corey’s recent arrest. Maybe have him do segments involving antique handcuffs or something from Alcatraz?

Bumping to ask - there’s an expert the guys call upon to verify Magic-related stuff. Last night they had him try and authenticate one of Houdini’s straight-jackets (which he was able to do).

My question is - where have I seen that guy?

He appraised some (fake) medieval armor on the show before. Maybe you saw that. He claims to have performed all over the world, do you see many magic shows? Don’t know his name, though…

I’d guess you saw him on America’s Got Talent, but he does have a lot of other credits as well.
