Paying for a link (eBay style)

I was playing around on eBay and I found these two items

(I don’t know how long they’ll stay up as the auctions are over and some users may not be able to see eBay)

Anyway the jist of it is people are bidding on links. The seller says “You are not getting the item picture but rather the name of a link where you can go and by that item.”

I can’t really say it’s a scam as they are upfront about it. What is this new or something? The seller actually received postive feedback from the buyer.

They aren’t all that new a thing.

I have a feeling that these auctions are against eBay regulations, but that there are so many of them that they don’t generally get deleted.
