What happens to wagers placed on games/bouts where it was later found that the fight was thrown or points were shaved? Keep in mind that I’m refering to “legitimate”, established bookies (i.e. Vegas casinos) and a reasonable time frame (I’m not giving back the loot my great grandpappy won on the Black Sox), or is there a statute of limitations?
I guess they could refund bets to people they can contact but I am not sure.
Henry Hill whose life was the movie “Goodfellas” (the Ray Liota character) was involved in point shaving at Boston College in the 70’s. They had “practice” games where the players were supposed to shave points but no bets were placed. One guy kept hitting shots he was trying to miss so the mafia guys got mad. But they did shave the points when the bets were placed. This was in the book version of the movie which was called Wiseguys.
