PC game - Disco Elysium

GOG now has Disco Elysium at 40% off. So… Dammit, I think I’m just going to buy it for PC. I can’t pass up that deal and you jerks all got me slavering to play it. Way to go fellas!

I have some advice.

  1. Get it.
  2. Wait until March to play it. They are releasing “the final cut” at that time as a free update to all PC versions. It features some new content, including FULL voice acting. The current game is voice-acted, but actually not all that often.

I probably would have waited had I realized that update was coming.

Thanks for the advice. I have indeed purchased it and it’s in my library, but I’ll wait until the update before experiencing the game. I have plenty to do until then.

Hey, come back when you play it and let us know. I am enjoying it a ton. It just hits a very unique and much needed sweet spot. I bet the new update will be great.

Good to know. I might reload it then and try it again.

I usually just read the dialogue even when there were voices but full voice acting might make me replay it.

You’re right it is an interactive story more than a point and click adventure as there aren’t really puzzles as such but it avoided the problems of both of those in that it doesn’t feel on rails and you never have an idea how to use an item or solve a problem but have to try every combination of “use wrench on tap clockwise” and wonder if you’re even barking up the right tree.

Also it’s not always sad sack, you can be a very definite this or that, don’t want to say too much.

(Warning product contains traces of sad sack)

I am nearing the end of Day 1; I have about four bucks, so will have nowhere to sleep (and the lady on the boat wouldn’t give me any money.) I don’t know where to go next in terms of investigating the murder, or finding the mysterious Lady Driver beyond the fact it’s not the old woman. No idea where my gun is. No idea how to get past the huge guy controlling access to the dock.

I am on Day 3(late day 3) and here are some thoughts for you. I’ll spoiler-box them for you, but the are not spoilers, just thoughts and one or two helpful things that are not spoilers to me.

  1. The guy controlling the dock - it opens after repairs or something on Day 3. It’s just the game holding back more area to you. I may be misunderstanding you if you mean the union-area where they are striking. I’m not sure about that situation…

  2. Just talk to everyone, accept every quest/task and keep looking at everything. This is a story game and you will be rewarded just for using every question and option with everyone you can. There is not a lot of figuring out for you to do personally.

  3. Check your journal for quests and ideas. It actually suggests where to start some investigation type things.

  4. For me, at the end of Day 1, my partner had a "let’s review the case so far’ talk with me that helped me going into Day 2. That actually did not happen again at the end of day 2, but perhaps I missed it somehow.

  5. If you have explored all options, just go to bed I guess and wake up for Day 2.

How do I go to bed? My hotel room’s locked, I don’t have 130 reals to get access again. I have… four.

Talk to your partner and sell the hubcaps from his car.

Yes, I forgot to mention that on Day 1, you don’t need the money. As DPRK just said:

Kim will give you the money. He has something to sell in his car and he’ll cover your room for that night. On Night 2, you will need to pay(I think it is 20 Real per night).

I’ll add a tiny spoiler that I think you find to be good news and in no way spoils the game.

On Day 3, you can find a free place to stay each night so you don’t have the burden of getting cash for a room.

Non-spoiler way of describing where I am:

I ended Day 4 with a major story event, one that came with a “are you sure you want to go forward?” warning from Kim. I kind of stumbled forward not sure if it was the right timing, but let’s be honest, protagonist is kind of stumbling forward through the entire game, right?

I am playing as much as possible and loving it.

I think I just saw that it’s on sale on Steam, and once again considered procuring it.

One concern I have: Is it possible/still enjoyable to play for 30 minutes to an hour at a time? It doesn’t seem like it would be; that you’d need to dedicate a couple hours on a session at least to actually accomplish something and and preserve some continuity.

100% you can. I have done this tons of time. It has a save almost anywhere capability and you don’t need tons of time to play a session.

Remember, if you get it now and wait until March, it is getting a major update.

I beat the game today(stumbled to the end) and started another thread to discuss it more “open spoilery”

Here is a full article on the big update coming in March. You can buy the game now if you find a good price: The update comes free to everyone who already owned the game.

Two ways:

  1. Max out/buff Physical Instrument (you can buff abilities with tobacco, drugs, & alcohol) and beat him down. You will still need to make the correct choices in the fight but you can try again if you fail.
  2. Talk to him about his racial superiority beliefs and then embarrass him in front of the ladies. If I remember correctly you need to pass a check of one of the ‘brainy’ abilities, don’t remember which one.

Ask the guy in the pawn shop about it and you’ll eventually get it back.

Final Cut version is coming on March 30. Free for everyone who owns it already.
