So, I’m usually relatively comfortable around computers, but this time, I can’t really make heads nor tails off the situation – when I start up my PC, after it performs the memory check, it tries to autodetect the hard drives, and freezes. But, and that’s the strange part, if I cancel the memory test by hitting escape, it detects the hard drives without problem and runs happy as a fluffy bunny in a green meadow.
I just can’t work out any sort of cause and effect relationship here – how does the memory test affect the HDD autodetection? Is this indicative of a problem with my RAM, or my HDs/IDE controller? Or something else entirely? Just one of those random weird things computers do every now and then to foreshadow the coming machine uprising?
You could try clearing NVRAM. Is your BIOS up-to-date?
