was wondering if anyone know anything about these desktop toys… mostly from a building them pov… for those of you not in the know window sitters are theses little mascot charachters that sit on the top of your open windows and as far as desktop buddies i’m talking about little guys that chase the mouse around the screen, maybe one similar to the window sitter that sits on the taskbar? any clues or points in the direction of tutorials would be welcome.
Well, there’s Neko which chases the mouse around on your screen. And, with software that lets you edit and create icon libraries (such as Microangelo), you can alter the appearance of little Neko to whatever you want.
That being said, I’ve not yet tried out Neko on an XP computer. Don’t know if it will work, or if there’s a newer version. If not, you should be able to set it so that it runs in Windows98 mode, which ought to work.
As for Microangelo, I recommend the Value Pack free trial download. 20-day trial, but like WinZip it won’t stop working. Just don’t delete it and expect to download it again.
I doubt all this is quite what you’re looking for, but it’s a start. Or at least a fun diversion.
I think they’re are cute, but someone told me that they’re spybots, or whatever those things are called that send cookies to marketers. Not true?
Some of them are, yes. Bonzi Buddy, for example, was a desktop buddy that was just loaded with malware. I’m pretty sure Neko is safe though. I’ve never had problems with it.
