Peace petition to sign

This is not one of those email hoaxes, and a noble cause:

Dear friends and colleagues,

Please sign the petition for peace (details below) that is now
circulating among progressive circles. And forward this on to everyone
you can.

Peace

PLEASE SIGN!
In the aftermath of the ruthless attack on the World Trade Center and
Pentagon, we implore the leaders of the United States to ensure that justice
be served by protecting the innocent citizens of all nations.
We beg that the President maintain the civil liberties of all U.S.
residents, protect the human rights of all people at home and abroad,
and guarantee that this attempted attack on the principles and freedoms
of the United States will not succeed.
We plead for a thorough investigation of the terrorist events before
any retaliation.
We call for PEACE and JUSTICE, not revenge.

In Solidarity,

The Undersigned

They had a peace parade last night that passed in front of my window. In the 70’s I would have been in that parade. Today I want revenge, but maybe in a couple of months I’ll be marching for peace again. Don’t forget to call us back to check every month or so. Opinions change over time.

ggggggggggooooooo awwwaaaaaayyy…

What exactly was it about the OP that you found so grossly objectionable? you are entitled not to agree, but it really didn’t strike me as egregious in any way.

More lost lives will not solve the problem. We need a full and thorough investigation conducted with an open mind. We need to protect our country first and be aware that terrorism exists here as well as abroad.

There is no such a thing as ABSOLUTE JUSTICE. Hatred generates nothing other than hatred. No more killing innocent people!

Let’s avoid compounding an awful act with a humanitarian disaster. It’s great to see so much support for peace and justice.

Violence is not a solution. We have to find a peaceful solution for seeking the peace.

Why is this called a peace petition when nothing in it asks for peace?

“We call for PEACE and JUSTICE, not revenge”.

So you’re pleading with the administration to do just what they said they’re gonna do?

I received it moments before opening this thread. And I’m gonna sign it, too.

I don’t usually sign them because they’re usually drivel, and I don’t like the idea of chain-letters, so chain e-mail doesn’t seem much better - occasionally I’ve returned them with snotty replies. But this whole situation is different. No-one among my friends is any more in favour of e-pteitions, but they’ve all signed it too. Because we have to do something. And it’s worth doing whatever you can.

I’m starting a petition to give noogies to the individual signers of the above petition. Anyone want to sign?

“Don’t bother me with what they did. Don’t bother me with what they can do again. Just don’t harm anybody. Don’t violate anybody’s rights.”

Sometimes, peace-at-all-costs isn’t the answer. This is one of those times.

You can have all the peace you want, once the people you criticize eradicate the enemies of peace.

Have fun with your cause, though. At least a lot of you have something to do now besides wait in line for Phish tickets.

Oh dear me, you’re right. That line “We plead for a thorough investigation of the terrorist events before
any retaliation” seemed to suggest retaliation should be made after the investigation. I didn’t realize it would be a peaceful retaliation. Or that whoever invented this piece of crap would be capable of imagining that we can bring the terrorists to justice peacefully. Somehow I doubt that bin Laden will peacefully step forward to be handcuffed.

What a meaningless petition.

::Raises hand::

No, wait, people. We should all sign it.
Think about it: Government reps have already said they plan to do these things. So if they do, we get to feel all smug and self-righteous because we told them do it.
And if they screw up and don’t accomplish these goals, we still get to be self-righteous and say “I told you so. If only you had listened to me.”
It’s a win-win situation!

This chain letter is just as silly as the ones my 13 year old niece is kind enough to include me in, such as the recent Dalai Lama Personality Test (the name alone cracks me up), which includes the instruction: “Make a wish before starting the test!”.

Of course, the first clue this was silly was your initial statement:

The true mark of any UL FOAF MLM fluff. I’m only surprised you didn’t include lots of exclamation points in the subject.

If I sign, will you give me a “Visualize World Peace” bumper sticker for my car?

I was kinda afraid of opening this thread, then I opened it and found what I feared:

How can I sign something like this? I am all for the Bomb them with Love thread, but this kind of useless language is too much for even me.

Hey, this is cool. I just got a new printer and I printed out the petition. I liked the way it looked on a new sheet of paper, the words were really bright and bold.

Then I wiped my ass with it.

“and guarantee that this attempted attack on the principles and freedoms of the United States will not succeed.”

Should be added: “Or double your money back!”

Why, justice is exactly what Bush wants–didn’t you hear him tonight? The terrorists will be brought to justice, or justice will be brought to the terrorists–something to that effect. I assume it’s their choice–they can surrender for trial, after all.

I believe in peace at any price…and sometimes the price is killing the unpeaceful.

I don’t think the phrase “attempted attack” stands up to the facts very well.
