peace prayers

i have asked a lot of the guys who wear their collar backwards
and all i’v gotten is some foot shuffling. coughing and rationalization.

can you give me the name of a single war that was stopped by prayer...please, nothing like "we don't know how many were

prevented"

i’m of the opinion that peace prayers are crapola! and if they don’t work, how about all the other things that are prayed for?
i want less corruption or more chance to participate in it!!!

This seems more like a Great Debate than a factual GQ, so I’ll move this thread over there for you.

Pray with me, bugs:

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, On Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give bugs this day a shift-key
And forgive him his lack of capitalizations,
Though we won’t forgive those don’t capitalize. (Against us?)
And lead us not into excessive smiley-usage,
But deliver us from said evil.
For thine is the shift-key
and the umlaut,
and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
That being said, how would you know if a war has been stopped or not? Are you expecting the hand of God to come from the clouds and flip over tanks and stuff? If not, then we really don’t know how many wars prayer has stopped, if any.

i would expect to see the war suddenly stop. the guys with backward collars have all told me they don’t know of any which have been stopped. it’s somewhat like listening for a msg from god…why does god pusseyfoot around and supposedly contact you via thoughts?

and while i’m at it why would a kind and loving god create nothing
but predatory systems where the top dog eats anything weaker,
where all fish survive by eating smaller fish, where birds and fowl who are not predatory have to constantly be on the lookout for
predatory birds such as hawks and eagles. there’s a predatory bird in the arctic which just slaughters for the fun of it.

i can’t believe the world and all that’s in it just happened, but
it wasn’t created by the god the bible talks about. and even there doesn’t it say god creates the good and the evil.

the world is like something designed by the roman emporers who liked to watch people and animals tear each other aprt

my prayers were lost on you. there is no god.

Why stop at war? Can we prove that *anything * has ever been affected by prayer?

You guys need to read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. All I can say is that if that book doesn’t convince you of the existance of God, then you are either: A. Not smart enough to understand what you are reading (which is ok, try again in a few years) or B. Just too stubborn to accept him, which is also ok, just dissapointing. Good luck.

How about C. We recognise a work of fiction when we see one.

Really?

I mean, I already beleive in God, but what is it specifically about The Screwtape Letters that you think is so infallibly convincing. Without a doubt it is a very clever piece of writing, I enjoyed reading it, but please explain… (perhaps I’m just one of those who are not smart enough?)

My friend - have a read (slowly) of the question you have asked and think (carefully) about it…

If you can see what’s wrong, then there is hope for you yet

Grim

Why, yes. Numerous children forced to attend church by their parents have prayed, “Please, God, make this service end!”

And He did.

But the time when He did was clearly affected by the prayers of the long-winded clergyman leading the service.

As for the root question, the Problem of Evil has been debated at length for several thousand years now. In essence, it says, “In a world alleged to have been created by an omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent God, why in Hell is there all the sinful crap that mars this world?” And I’m certain that as soon as someone gets an answer that will explain it all to everyone’s satisfaction, they’ll be sure to share it here.

I think they need to turn their collars around the right way, that would probably solve everything, maybe.
