Peacemaker series

I have a current theory but I can’t quite make it fit. Goff may not be evil. I think that the peace sign she drew was, at least possibly, sincere.

At some point didn’t Murm make a comment about a race war being the butterfly downfall?

My guess is that Goff now understands the whole situation of the show and in the final showdown, the butterflies are going to end the White Dragon and his crew. The part I am missing is how Goff knows this information.

Maybe the butterflies will end the neo-nazi threat in exchange for the butterflies to be let alone in the Montana/Idaho region.

Also, more credit for the music in the series. I couldn’t have imagined being able to find a 1980s song from 2016.

Except, the butterflies are apparently perfectly capable of living outside human hosts but still choose to murder innocent human beings to infest them. Not!Murn is the “good” one, because he opposed the plan to infest humans, and deliberately choose an evil man to infest, but still feels remorse about stealing Human!Murn’s chance to be a better man. We still don’t know the full scope or details of the butterflies’ plans, but they’re pretty clearly evil.

We may get a bit of darkly ironic humor, where even the alien murder-bugs think the white supremacists are nuts, and make them better people by murdering and infesting them, but I don’t think we’re going to find out the butterflies were just misunderstood and that they were good guys all along.

One thing we still don’t know is what Judomaster was trying to say before Adebayo shot him. He said something like, “The butterflies aren’t what you think, they’re-”

The only way this works in any sense is if the hosts aren’t killed when they’re taken over. And even if they aren’t killed, all that means is that they’re being horrifically violated forever and ever until they die. Murn-the-butterfly seems absolutely disgusted about what he’s done to Murn-the-human, even though he picked the most reprehensible human he could find.

ETA: On post I see gdave ninja’d me almost word for word. He’s clearly a butterfly. Get him!

How far along is the series? I just watched season 1, episode 2 yesterday.

6 of 8 episodes have aired so far. I don’t know if a season 2 has been greenlit yet.

Like I said, it is a theory that I can’t quite make fit…

I know I want another season or two with these characters.

As of January 27th, per James Gunn, he’s working on developing another spinoff from The Suicide Squad, and “[t]here’s a really good chance” of a Season 2 of Peacemaker, but nothing’s been greenlit yet.

By the way, did we ever learn definitively if judomaster lived or died? Or should we just assumed “lived”, because everyone lives in comic books if you don’t specifically see the body? It did seem to be dropped…

Definitively lived, at least the last time we saw him. After Adebayo shot him, we saw him laid up on a couch in Team Peacemaker’s HQ with a bandaged chest, and Economos was adjusting his IV.

Any odds placed on if makes another appearance?

A bit odd that he disappeared without explanation and not dead. Having teased that reveal about butterflies.

I’d put the odds at nearly 100%, otherwise it’s a whole story arc that was teased, and then dropped entirely for the sake of a one-off funny reaction. That seems an awful waste, and so far, this series has been good enough that I don’t think the writers would have wasted that much effort. I have no idea what the payoff will be, but I’m near certain there will be a payoff.

Something I’ve meant to mention: in the school scene, you get another subtle moment like in the “Eagly missing his mark” in the opening credits. In the classroom talk, the camera work is slightly more shakey and much more choppy in zooms and pans. And at one point, one girl turns and looks directly into the camera, and then the camera pans a bit and you see Gender-Swapped Alfred E. Neumann looking into the camera, too, all as if somebody is filming it with a camcorder or cell phone.

(But there isn’t anyone back there in-universe.)

Judomaster is in the episode 7 Trailer, “Ding dong, bitches”-

None of the people appearing in the dance video have died yet (well their brains/personalities might have…).

Or not.

Well that can no longer be said.

Lots of anticlimactic and huh? bits today.

Probably something I missed on one - how did Augie’s White power thugs get all the helmets that were said to be in police evidence lock up?

My optimism for surprising fun twists to come is flagging now. Still hoping it sticks the landing!

The title credits sure play a little differently after that opening scene.

They…didn’t?

If you mean the duffle bag in the WPT car which Vigilante stole, I thought it was pretty clear that was Peacemaker’s duffle bag, which he had with him in the van, and which Vigilante grabbed and tossed in the trunk. Hence Vigilante apologizing for bringing them along (“I thought they looked valuable”), not realizing they had tracking devices in them.

The WPT with the tracker pad said there was one group of helmets in police lock-up, and another group of helmets in another location - the team’s HQ. Peacemaker apparently took that second group of helmets with him in that duffle bag.

Yeah, definitely. I mentioned upthread that I watched the opening credits every episode, and giggled with delight every time. Not this time, though. That was genuinely rough.

Damn you, James Gunn, for playing my emotions like a glam rock guitar solo!

Yes, you see him carrying it early in the episode.
