Ah, this is one where I was lucky as a child. Had a wild plum tree growing in the back of the house as a kid. Not huge plums like store bought, bite sized with a huge pit. Right before the kamikaze(divine wind not suicidal japanese pilots) took it, it had started producing larger and less tasty plums, like it was cross pollinating with all the decorative plum trees people were planting around the neighborhood.
Were we separated at birth? Gma had a huge patch of rhubarb too. Mmmmm pluck one, snap the leaf off and eat it, right out of the garden…sigh, memories
I grew up with a Zwetschge tree in the back yard, which my parents called an Italian prune tree.
Eating 8 of them at a time might not be such a good idea. But they’re so good.
My husband isn’t found of peaches, mainly because of the peach fuzz and the skin texture. I like peaches best when they have to be eaten over the sink. Or in pie. Mmmm pie. I have a crust in the freezer and a lot of zwetsche…
We got some peaches off a truck earlier in the summer, with no plans for them. Luckily, I’d picked up the grillin’ peaches thing from my favorite nephew. But he spends a good hour folding spices into semi-softened butter, mixing oils and herbs, and working on the wood chip/charcoal ratio. Me, I brush 'em with olive oil, grill til charred.
They do NOT need sweetening; I’m always surprised by how the sugars concentrate (and caramelize) on the grill.
