Smooth peanut butter with whatever homemade jam I have on hand at the time. Yesterday it was blackberry peach.
My husband is sitting next to me going “yuck,” but crunchy peanut butter (natural is a bonus!) with apple jelly on rye. Sounds crazy, is yummy.
I’m an “other”. I’ve probably had peanut butter and jelly/jam 5 times in 57 years. I’m a straight creamy peanut butter on whole wheat gal, but if I want to spice it up, I put sliced strawberries or mashed raspberries from my garden. And if I have some chips laying around, a peanut butter (always creamy) and potato chip sandwich is divine!
What we have in the house more often is crunchy PB and grape jam. My own personal preference is for smooth PB and strawberry preserves, but I’m the only one so I don’t buy the preserves often. Mainly since I should not be eating so much PB&J these days.
With sweet pickle chips I prefer smooth PB.
Also, PB with fresh sliced garden tomato is pretty darn good. Really.
Smooth with raspberry jammmmmm.
Crunchy with any type of jam, thought strawberry is my favorite.
Smooth with homemade strawberry freezer jam. We usually make a couple dozen jars of jam for the freezer so it will last me until the next season.
PB and honey is my runner-up.
My first choice would be smooth PB and grape jelly, but I like them all.
Crunchy peanut butter and apricot-pineapple preserves. Or raspberry. Or black cherry. Or jalapeno marmalade. Strawberry is okay, but grape is only when desperate.
Finally Someone else that appreciates the beauty of a good PB and sweet pickle sandwich! When I tell people that I like them, they usually look at me like I’m from Mars. They often back up several steps as well. I love the way the sharply, sweet crunch of the pickle contrasts with the smooth richness of the PB. Spread it on some 7-grain toast and that’s lunch.
If I don’t have pickles handy then I reach for the apricot preserves.
I recall now the green-chili jam I used to get when I lived in Albuquerque. Good stuff!
Hey, I posted that back on post #28!
I like to slice sweet gherkins on it, though - never thought to use pickle chips. Might have to try it once my jar of gherkins runs out.
Crunchy PB with grape jelly on fresh white bread. Maybe toast the bread slightly.
Not fancy, not gourmet. Best comfort food evah.
Yes you did and you bravely faced the mockery of others. I salute your courage!
My husband is totally fixated on PB&J. He eats at least one a day, aside from his regular meals, and I’m sure he’d happily live on it. Gotta be grape jam, though.
I like PB&J fine, but it’s got to be apple jelly. I associate it with when I was little and Grandma would take us to swimming lessons at the pool. When we got home we were starving and we would tear up some PB & AJ!
PB & J has always been smooth and apple for me. Strawberry seems… wrong somehow. <shrug> each to his own.
Whole wheat bread, smooth no sugar added PB, and strawberry preserves. Perfection!
I chose smooth with other jelly but I was assuming for brevity’s sake we were using “jelly” as a generic, all-encompassing term to also include jam, preserves, marmalade, etc. even though I know they are not the same things.
Smooth peanut butter on whole wheat bread with blackberry jam–and none of this seedless crap!
I hate jelly. Not the taste, the texture. It is so obnoxious to try to spread on bread. I prefer not to fight with my food before I eat it (crab legs excepted).
You want to try something great? Peanut butter (crunchy or smooth) and apple butter on a toasted english muffin. It’s my youngest daughter’s “go to” breakfast now.
Crunchy on 8 grain bread, and you can keep the nasty fruit goo. I like my fruit fresh and my peanut butter unadulterated with inferior spreads.
