Peggy Hill, You Hypocrite!

I mean, really! You give poor Hank hell about lying to you, telling you he had a football injury when he really had mono as a teenager, but you neglect to tell him that you weren’t a virgin when you married him!

I think, in my opninion, that doing the nasty trumps a little ol’ kiss, don’t you?

Ho yeah!

Finally, after three tries, my OP finally goes through!

Apparently it went through three times.

I would have to think that it would have been better for the (obviously already tired) hamsters if you had just posted the above text as a reply to the first thread that got decapitated.

But that’s really not on-topic, so I probably shouldn’t say it.

I’d do Louann…

“My dad says Butane is a bastard gas.”-- Bobby Hill

Peggy Hill is the main (but not sole) reason I can’t watch that show. The shrill sanctimonious know-it-all-but-really-doesn’t-have-a-clue female character is a staple in comedies that have male leads, and while The Simpsons is funny enough to carry Lisa along, King of the Hill just doesn’t have enough wit to make me willing to tolerate Peggy.

Whatsamatter, Bryan, you don’t like the way she hablas Español?

Yeah, I watch King of the Hill, but I’ve never been able to warm up to Peggy. She just doesn’t have any real redeemable qualities. Neither does Dale, usually, but I never felt that I was supposed to sympathize with him.

By the way, I identify with Lisa Simpson.

Nitpick, but I would say Lisa is a know-it-all-who-really-does-have-a-clue, at least usually. Far more than any other character on the show, certainly. Also, I wouldn’t say that the Simpsons has a male lead. Despite the Homer-centric nature of recent seasons, the show is about the entire family, not just Homer or Bart.

I’m right there with you on Peggy, though. She exsists primarily as a foil to show what a nice guy Hank is for putting up with such a wretched, overbearing ninny as a spouse. (Come to think of it, it’s almost the perfect reverse of Marge and Homer…) However, I kinda enjoy this aspect of the show. 99% of all other TV marriages are about dopey men and the brilliant (and beautiful!) women who for some wierd reason put up with all their crap. Nice to see the cliche inverted for a change.

I LOVE King of the Hill. Peggy’s annoying, but she’s supposed to be.

I like seeing Dale, Bill and Boomhauer. Dale is the CLASSIC conspiracy theorist! I mean, come on, you know he’d be all over the SDMB as “Rusty Shackleford!”

Plus I like Bobby-he’s not the stereotypical fat loser kid. He’s in remedial classes, yes, but he’s pretty clever, loyal, sweet, VERY funny, confident and not bad to look at. He’s very charming and popular, and has a lot of friends.

Plus the whole John Redcorn/Joseph thing. BWAHAHAHAHAH! It’s so freaking obvious! Especially since Dale is so paranoid, but can’t figure out the one secret that’s right under his nose. He’s so dense-when his dad tried to come out of the closet, he thought his father was a government agent!

I’m not that big a fan of King of the Hill, but I cracked up at the end of that show, when Dale said “Why would I have a problem with it? John Redcorn’s gay, and I’ve been friends with him for years!”

I kind of agree with the OP. Maybe she was trying to pretend it never happened. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I would nitpick that nitpick. I think both Lisa Simpson and Peggy Hill could use a dose of Straight Dope. Lisa isn’t careless enough to get into predicaments that Bart and Homer do, but she tends to be impulsive in her selection of “causes” that she jumps into. In other words, Lisa and Peggy would both state something as “fact” simply because they saw it in an article or on a protestor’s sign. Kind of like the time that Lisa shouted out the declaration that rice thrown at weddings kills birds (that’s just the first that came to my mind–and one that I know wouldn’t offend anyone here). Sometimes I feel like Lisa is the show’s attempt to make a political statement, and other times it’s like she is the caricature of people who annoy me. I prefer the second, because then I can laugh rather than be offended. Lisa and Peggy both, just quit your shouting and dig around for the straight dope already!

Dale: Well, to nit-pick your nit-pick of my nit-pick, I think that while Lisa is impulsive, she’s not as bull-headedly ignorant as Peggy. Even when she goes overboard on a particular cause, it’s usually a case of her taking something reasonable (enviromentalism, say) and going to an extreme with it (living in a tree). Plus, she’s almost always willing to be proved wrong. Most episodes where she goes over board on something end with her returning to more moderate position (the vegetarian episode comes to mind).

Peggy, on the other hand, interprets everything to fit her preconceived notion of who she is and how the world works. She outright rejects anything that contradicts her, and most episodes resolve with Hank finding some way to resolve the plot while maintaining his wife’s delusions of grandeur. In addition, Lisa is genuinely smart, whereas Peggy is… well… not.

And that’s not even including the fact that we’re comparing and contrasting the intellects of a middle-aged woman and an eight year old girl, and the little girl is winning.

I like Peggy despite her voice being done by Kathy Najimy, who I loathe.

So Peggy wasn’t a virgin, huh? Who did she do?

On top of that, Peggy was lying to Hank during her phone call in which she was lying to him. Remember: she ruined dinner and was in hysterics over it, but tried to convince Hank that a great dinner was waiting for him.

Peggy drives me nuts with her “in my opinion.” “In my opinion, the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year.” GRRRR! I was so proud of Hank when he finally called her on that.

And her Spanish pisses me off to no end (but I’m particularly sensitive to this given that I’ve studied Spanish for years and used to live in Spain).

Don’t get me wrong, though–it’s a credit to the writers that they can create a character who can provoke such a strong reaction in the audience.

I’m with VW_Woman here-who did Peggy do? I watched the show for years, then trailed off, and now I’m back into it thanks to the local Fox channel’s twice-nightly reruns. Which, I just realized, I missed tonight.

I think Peggy’s rather sweet.

Peggy certainly has a lot of faults, but then so does everybody. It doesn’t seem right to single her out for criticism. Hell, the show is ABOUT everybody’s faults. I think the show is a terrific exploration of human foibles. Sometimes the depiction of imperfection is so perfect that the entertainment value is out-weighed by the truth revealed.

It also captures the flavor of those foibles in its locale. I live in Arlen, and the set of values represented in the show are very common there. (No doubt, they are common in lots of places, but in King Of The Hill it really feels like home.)

There really is an Arlen? I thought it was like Springfield.

Luanne Virgin 2.0

I don’t remember if Peggy gives the guy’s name, and I’m too lazy to dig out my tapes and find out. This’ll have to do.

Btw, I like Peggy (especially the way that robe clings to her!), But I agree, she is probably the biggest know-it-all on television today.
