Peggy Hill

I’m probably in the minority here, but I sort of like Peggy Hill, on King of the Hill. Admittedly, Peggy isn’t as smart as she thinks she is, and she’s remarkably passive-aggressive, but she does love her family, and even when her meddling ends up making things worse, she does it because she’s trying to help. Peggy just has a remarkably low self-esteem, and it shows.

Peggy’s okay, but does she laugh at Tony Danza…laugh at Tony Danza…laugh at Tony Danza???

Peggy Hill is the character I love to hate. She prides herself on her substitute Spanish teaching abilities, yet barely bothered to learn enough mispronounced Spanish to hail a cab. She calls her spaghetti “spaPeggy.”

Peggy: “What a great idea! I wish I could take credit for it somehow. Oh! I did buy the newspaper!”

Yes, you are in the minority, I think ;).

I hate her!! But that is what makes the show fun. Like neutron star said, you love to hate her. She always wants the credit and tries to show up her OWN son! I’ve never seen such an annoying character before :D.

She’s the main reason I rarely watch that show any more. She’s the composite of every self-centered expert wanna-be I’ve had the misfortune to encounter in my life. I can’t even love to hate her. I just avoid any show that involves her to a significant degree.

Ah, but doesn’t the fact that you feel such strong emotion about Peggy indicate that she is a well drawn, accurate and three dimensional character? Sure she’s annoying. So was Beavis. But to me she’s entirely believable. I’ve known lots of folks very much like Peggy Hill. To me, Peggy’s ability to be realistic annoying is an indicator of the quality of the writing on that show.

I can’t believe anyone would hate Peggy. The episode where she’s accused of kidnapping that Mexican kid and takes the stand in her own defense and calls the judge a compassionate horse in spanish had me on the floor. Peggy Rules.

Hank annoys me.
Kig of the Hill rises and falls on Boomhauer

I don’t know if I could have put it any better.

hrh

Fingernails on chalk board. You know an episode will suck if it features Peggy or gives her more then 3 lines. I gave up on the show because she was just too annoying to listen to anymore. The show was getting predictable and trite at the time anyway, so no loss.

My mother-in-law has many of Peggy Hill’s worst qualitys. If she was actually half as smart as she thinks she is, she would be twice as smart as she really is.

The difference between the two (besides the obvious fact that one is ficticious) is that I can kinda put up with Peggy.

Fagjunk Theology: Not just for sodomite propagandists anymore.

My favorite Peggy moments:

1- when she opened the restaurant and put out a suggestion box for “Team Peggy Hill” (one of several episodes to use that phrase). The Fat Albert like chef’s comment was great: “That box would work better if you’d cut a hole in the top.”

2- When Randy Travis really did steal her song.

Ah, Good Ol’ Freddy- gotta love him.

Wait, no you don’t… I wonder if there’s any way you could convince Bush he has a link to Al-Q and is harboring WMDs?

When my brother and I are watching the show we always end up saying to each other every 90 seconds or so

" I fucking hate Peggy Hill."

They did a fantastic job of crafting a painfully annoying character, but they really do teeter on the edge of pissing you off too much IMHO.

Sorry about the “F” word. I forgot I wasn’t still in the pit. My bad.

But she’s not three-dimensional. In EVERY episode she’s wrong and humiliated. That’s what I’d be saying if they never released the intellegence test scam episode and the Bobby ball-kicking episode. She finally got to one-up Hank in those “Ha! I think you will find that I do not have testicles.” But most of the time she’s portrayed as a hopeless, headstrong idiot who should just shutup and let her husband take care of everything. However, as flawed as she is, everything she says is still hilarious “and that, Bobby, is how Peggy Hill saved Christmas”.

Like any sitcom character after a while, they have taken her to a ridiculous extreme.

Much like Homer getting dumber each season.

There are probably more exceptions to this rule than the two you can think of. I think Peggy gets more than her share of victories and she does get to be human once in a while.

There was the episode where Hank was very uncomfortable about his “medical device” (a fake butt that hung from a belt under his pants) and Peggy took Hank on a fake Propane Emergency. She dropped him off at a diminished glutes support group and drove away. It ended up helping Hank.

And then there was her long recovery from her skydiving accident. She was painted as a determined (and ultimately successful) woman in those episodes.

I like Peggy, and I don’t like her. She’s annoying, but incredibly funny.

And you gotta hand it to her when Luann’s mama LeighAnn came back. Peggy kicked her ass totally.

She’s supposed to be annoying. Luann can be annoying by how stupid she is. Really, I think Bobby is probably the smartest one on the show.

Boomhauer is the smartest one on the show! By far!

Who is the dumbest?

Peggy, Luanne or BILL!

Hmm, well, Peggy doesn’t annoy me as much as she does some other people here but she is the kind of person you’d like to meet in person just so you could say, “Do you realize your Spanish SUCKS?” Definitely arrogant and competitive. This is all too clear in her quest to guess the proper weight of her ice cream cup so she can get it for free.

I can’t stand it when she says, “HOooo-AH!”

Luanne…oh God, if I have to listen to an episode where she is CRYING, I want to rip my hair out. OR when she uses the stupid sock puppet animals.

Bill is just pathetic but I do feel sorry for him a bit.

My vote for smartest is a tie - Bobby and Connie.

In her defense, she does a good Fal Albert.
