Would you play solo adventures? You know, like the Lone Wolf stories or those nifty choose-your-own adventure novels?
I’m not familiar with the Lone Wolf stories and I haven’t played a CYOA in a long time. But I have played in PBeMs and FtF that were being run for one reason or another just for me. Just me and the GM. If the GM is is good and creative, it’s a lot of fun. Otherwise it can get pretty damned boring.
What about where there’s no GM at all? Sort of a text-based adventure in book form:
You see a goblin at the end of the hall.
If you want to attack, go to page 1
If you want to flee, go to page 2
If you want to moon him, go to page 3
Like that.
I seem to recall the first MUDs and computer games were like that.
Yes, I played them. Incessantly.
No, not really interested. To me, roleplaying is a social thing. The main point is hanging out with your buds. Doing it alone is sorta pointless, to me.
Oddly, when it comes to computer games, I’m precisely the opposite. If I’m playing a computer game, I prefer to play solo. Online gaming doesn’t do a thing for me.
Ah. It is a CYOA book we’re talking about. No, I don’t play those. My daughter did for a while when she was younger and my son has. These seem to be more geared to kids in the last few years.
