Since 2012, the school has paid more than $93 million to settle claims from 32 Sandusky accusers
BELLEFONTE, Pa. - A jury on Thursday ordered Pennsylvania State University to pay $7.3 million to Mike McQueary, who blamed school officials for destroying his life and coaching career after he emerged five years ago as the star witness against Jerry...
This judgement is vastly excessive (as well as the average $3 million settlement for each Sandusky accuser).
ern no as a molestation victim I can safely say there’s no amount in the world that you can get repaid to make that better …
3 million would pay for therapy and such tho
Mike McQueary wasn’t a victim. He was the coach who witnessed Sandusky raping a [del]paper towel tube[/del] 10-year-old boy in the showers, which he reported to Joe Paterno and others, who ignored him.
Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could cash in on such a payday just by witnessing a crime…
Pretty hard to justify this guy’s actions. He sees a naked boy in the shower with a grown man. Hears the distinctive slapping sound of sex.
Doesn’t call 911? Instead he goes to the head coach (his boss) the next morning. Technically fulfilling his obligation to report it to his supervisor.
But, I think most people would call 911. This was a very serious sex crime that requires immediate police attention. Imho
I don’t think he should be rewarded with 7 million bucks.

Isn’t this essentially what Paterno himself did? Report to administration, but not to law enforcement?
Yes it is. Each person just reported to their supervisor/boss.
I don’t recall what the school finally did. I think someone in the school’s administration reported the crime to the campus police chief? I’m not sure. Been a couple years since this was in the news.

He didn’t get the money for witnesses a crime. He sued because (he says) Penn State was responsible for " destroying his life and coaching career." If the jury agreed (and apparently they did), damages could easily amount to $7 million.

Do not use this thread to take shots at another poster outside of the Pit.

Ten more settlements like that, and he’ll be as rich as if he had used talicum powder.

The worst part of the story: the child watched his potential rescuer walk away.
Assistant coach making over 100K a year???
I guess he gets a payday. It may soothe him for being a social pariah forever for his boot-licking and cowardice.
Hmm…well, if it can be proven that Penn State fired him for speaking out against child rape, then I guess he at least deserves a medal or something. Maybe one of these?

I would hope most people would intervene and stop the rape. I sure as hell would try. Sick weak bastards. Just to be clear that’s directed at the rapist and those who didn’t help.
