People from New Hampsire

What are people from New Hampshire called? New Hampshirites? New Hampshirians? Now I understand that they may be referred to by the state nickname, maybe Granite Staters, but even Buckeyes can be called Ohioans.

Thanks,

I grew up in New England, and this is how we referred to residents (only half-seriously):

MA: Bay-staters
RI: Rhode Islanders (or Islanders)
VT: Granola-eating ski monkeys; (or Vermonters)
ME: People live there?
NH: Yankees; New Hampshirites
CT: New Yorkers

Okay, I made up the Granola-eating ski monkeys just now, but I want to start using it.

Ahem, I live in CT Skammer. Born and raised. You call me a New Yorker, and I’ll make sure the cement stockings fit very nicely.

As for the OP. New Hampshirite. I think. Up here if you are from New Hamshire, and I was asked what you were I’d say you’re a New Hamshirite. Here’s me Connecticut-centric list:

MA: Masshole (excluding Cal Meacham and other worthy taxachussetts folk.
RI: Mobster -> I mean Rhode Islander
CT: Connectican
NY: New Yawka
VT: Vermonter
ME: Mainiac

NH: New Hamsters
ME: Mainiacs

As far as I can tell, all those groups are called “Yankees”. I may be biased.

A serious question deserves a serious answer: New Hampshirites.

Other New Englanders: Mainers, Vermonters, Rhode Islanders, Connecticut residents, Massachusetts residents.

Well…Officially it’s New Hampshirites, but everybody I know really does call them ‘Hamsters’. (I’m from and in VT)

OK, now along these lines I have relatives in Halifax, NS. And, they’re called “Haligonians”. But, why? Who decided to insert the “g”? Why not Halifaxians, or Halifactions? Of course, then there’s the other side of the faily which are Delaweenies…!!!

You forget Massataxes. As for the RI reference, I have a friend who has a friend…

We used to call the real rural RIers “Swamp Yankees”.
