People, people, people.. no "ER" thread for 12/04?

Yes, I know this is really late. In fact, I thought about doing one this past weekend. Got too busy, and then the car accident happened.

Anyhow… what were your thoughts on the episode? It was the first I’ve watched in a month or so.

The kid was trying to steal a LOT of things, but that amputated finger was really the last straw. You just don’t DO that!

And the Amish runaway teens? I thought they were trying to see what life was like on the outside… the girl wanted it, but the boy didn’t. (or he was coerced into going back)

Was it a surprise to learn that the doctor’s sister (can’t remember her name or his now) had MS? I thought she did a good job of coping with it, though I guess we shall see about that if this is going to be at least a semi-occuring storyline.

OMG!!! When will this show end??? I don’t even see the light at the end of the tunnel…

Big continuity error there. In Secrets & Lies, the one where Susan, Abby, Carter, Kovac and Gallant spent the day at the sexual harrasment seminar that never happened (otherwise know as ER - The Breakfast Club), when they were all talking about their families, Gallant said all 6 or 7 of his siblings were in the service except his twin sister, because she had cerebral palsy. :smack:
I can’t believe the writers, or at least the actors, wouldn’t remember something like that. Posters over at TWoP were all over that mistake.

What’s TWoP?

Great site for snarking on lots of TV shows.

Yup… My daughter and I noticed this one immediately – probably because Doe has CP herself. I imagine the switch came about on purpose – they decided this season they wanted to bring the sister on as a potential romance for Pratt and felt that a person with CP would be too obviously disabled and/or disfigured to make the meet-cute storyline (Pratt meets her several times while she is seated, becomes attracted to her and doesn’t realize she is disabled until she stands up with her crutches) realistic.

Of course, there are many, many people only mildly afflicted with CP and that disorder would have worked just as well for the purposes of the storyline as MS does. My daughter, in fact, is very pretty and perfectly normal looking – other than being very short (4’8"), which is actually probably a result of her prematurity rather than her CP. We were excited to hear that Gallant’s sister was going to appear – there are very few realistic examples of disabled people on TV and absolutely no examples of people with CP. Then we were like, “MS! She’s supposed to have CP!” Very disappointing to see the show switch to what I can only assume they thought a “more attractive” disability! Again:

Well, I considered starting this thread a week ago, but I was underwhelmed by the episode…and it was tough to even think about discussion.

The Amish kids plot line annoyed me: it seemed like the boy wanted to go back and the girl didn’t. But my understanding is that Amish youngsters may go through rumspringa(sp?) around age 16 or so, but by that time they’ve completed their schooling, since they stop at 8th grade. And this girl was just going to walk out into the city and expect to be able to survive? And if she’s that young (there was a comment that they were minors), why wasn’t family & children services called when she was left on her own?

The whole episode irritated me, although if I’d known about the CP/MS discrepancy I would have been even more irritated.

Here’s something that I forgot to include last night: what did you think about nobody coming to Romano’s memorial service?

I thought that while Romano was hard to get along with in life (an understatement), people should at least have made the effort to come. Elizabeth was there for him, at least…

I don’t know… maybe he was just TOO hard to get along with, but I know I’d like the thought that people would come to my memorial service even if I was totally negative toward everyone. He did have SOME humanity, but it wasn’t very apparent…

Yeah, they totally rushed over Romano’s death-hell, even poor Gant from Season Two (or was it Three?) had more of a send-off!

That Romano thing REALLY pissed me off. even if none of the people that worked under him wanted to come, you’d think that His fellow administrators would show up just out of respect for the work he did for that hospital. He gave an ARM there for chirst sake and continuted to work, even though he could have had teh FAT bloated disability deal. He was a no nonsense efficant administrator and damn good surgon. He as also a total asshole who (understandablely) got very difficult to deal with after his accident. But who would’t in those circumstances? The only thing in his life that had any meaning for him was his work. ANd then he coudn’t do that, what would you expect a parade of flowers and dancing like he would have done in Fame?
Please, everybody in that ER is a cold callous selfish prick, and Elizebeth should leave them all (and come spend a few nights at my place ;))

Season Three.
