People who don't often check in with MPSIMS

Hello Lib!

Nice to meet you. Everyone usually calls me Pie or Cutie Pie. I know I’ve seen your name here and there, but I mostly hang out here in MPSIMS, specifically in the MMP, so I don’t believe we’ve posted in too many of the same threads.

I find that hanging out in other, more controversial, areas causes me stress and I’ve got enough stress in the ‘real world’ as it is.

Glad you could stop by.

Is it an insult or is it a description?

shrug I guess we’ll see what the mods think.

You recognize me? I’m flattered. I don’t play with the big boys much; frankly, you guys intimidate me. Not intentionally, just that I intimidate fairly easily.

MPSIMS is not the correct forum for debating whether or not a poster is an attention whore. I’m sure just about everybody on the board knows who Liberal is, but it’s true that he doesn’t visit this part of the site much, and there are plenty of posters who only hand out in a few forums instead of looking at all of them. If he wants to drop in and post about that I don’t have a problem with it. Further debates about Liberal’s character or anything other threadshitting should go in the Pit.

Very well.

Well, I don’t think you and I have ever interacted, so I think that counts for a ‘nice to meet you, Liberal’. I’m only an occasional poster, but I enjoy reading the goings-on here and in some of the other forums. Congratulations on your weight loss! That’s seriously impressive (although I’m relieved to hear you’ve decided against a terrifying 400 a day cal diet. That doesn’t sound any healthier than obesity to me!) and I commend you. When my mom was diagnosed with diabetes early this year, I changed my diet with her so that she wouldn’t have do it alone. I know all about the ups and downs of a major shift in the way you eat! Still, I’m glad we’re doing it. I wish you luck with yours!

Wow, dude, ya called that one! ha ha

Hi Lib!

waves Hi Lib!

I’m more of an IMHO/MPSIMS type myself, with semi-regular forays into Cafe Society, but I’ve seen your name quite a bit.

Welcome to this part of the boards. I hope your stay is enjoyable. (Why do I feel like a hotel clerk all of a sudden?)

Nice to meet you, Rin! Thing is, I really haven’t changed anything about the way I eat, other than the fact that I eat much smaller portions. Instead of half a pizza, I just eat a slice of pizza. Instead of two sandwiches and a bowl of soup, I eat one sandwich and a cup of soup. The pounds just started dropping. It’s purely a calorie thing. I drink Pepsi or tea (I’m Southern, and so it is sweet, of course.) I just don’t drink as much.

PLUS — and I think this is very important. I’ve developed a routine of daily chores, like walking along the road, picking up thrown out cigarette butts and straw wrappers and things like that … all the way around the property until I get to the back yard where I do maintenance on the koi pond (cleaning the net, and so forth). I’ve cleaned out our cellar, which had 10-year-old rotted boxes in it from the previous owners, and stuff like that. It took several weeks, really. i’ve put out 15 55-gallon bags of junk so far for trash pick-up. I expect to do 5 more. (We can put out only 5 at a time.)

Next, I’m going to clean out the barn. That should take a goodly long while. Plus, we’re doing a major relandscaping project, and I’m doing as much of the work as I can myself, like pulling out juniper trees, and a willow tree, and stuff like that. I wear a doo-rag, and I work till I’m sweating in sheets. It’s fun. I enjoy it. And the pounds just keep dropping off. (I have to say I didn’t enjoy discovering the yellow jacket nests, though. Ouch!)

Hi, there, PlainJain! I recognize your name as well. Yeah, I’ve got a fan club at the snark site. But it doesn’t bother me anymore. Hell, let 'em do what they love doing. I can’t control what people think, but I can control what I do and say. And I’m much better at that now, thanks to my team of doctors.

 I used to work in a hotel as a night bellman, and then a night auditor. Lordy, the stories I could tell…

Nice to hear from you, Stauderhorse.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I can see by your username that you lurked for a while before joining! Nice to meet ya! (I love egg custard, myself. A sprinkle of cinnamon is nice.)

Yeah, but you’re there sometimes. Usually, you just post your opinion, and then don’t really respond to arguments too much, except to ask follow up questions sometimes. At least, that’s how I remember you.

Well, you probably know who I am already, but I’ll play along. I’m olivesmarch4th and I’ve been posting here for roughly two years. I don’t tend to mind the polarizing figures here with precious few exceptions (I even have a soft spot for our trolls), so I’ll say that I’m very proud of you for your weight loss (I also lost 50 pounds and know it can be a difficult row to hoe.) Though I love the concept, I don’t have the time to devote to Great Debates and I don’t possess the depth of knowledge on most subjects required to participate there. I like MPSIMS and IMHO, but I’m especially fond of the Pit. I’m not a confrontational person at all but I find that’s where most of the real work gets done. In keeping with my personality I try to interject a smattering of mediation when people start getting their wires crossed (just a smattering, mind you–I’m not suicidal.) I’m also very happy you’ve found the right med combo to give you some peace.

I see this thread as a positive contribution to the forum; I’m not sure why some people are getting so riled up about it. But you can be sure I’m going to head over to the Pit and find out!

After reading Frank’s pit thread about you introducing yourself, I became motivated to join in.

Hi Liberal!

I have a huge amount of respect for those folks who say what they believe (whether I agree or disagree is waaaay beyond the point). I am reserved by nature and way to concerned of other peoples opinions of me.

So, Lib- nice to say “hi”.

That’s pretty much the same for me. I participate (in the sense of actually contributing) only in the theological (or philosophical) and political debates. I’m really not as smart as so many people in there, like Voyager, SentientMeat, or Indistinquishable. And I’m certainly not as educated. I dropped out of college after my first semester for a variety of reasons, and since then, I’m self-taught in practically everything. The only reason I feel qualified to talk about philosophy at all is because I’ve read so many of the classical books by the original authors, like Nietzsche, Sartre, Schopenhauer, Wittgenstein (my favorite), Kant (of course), and yes, even Hegel (dear God, what a windbag.) I’m currently doing a series called “The Aesthetical Jesus”, which I hope to wrap up very soon. (Formatting it, and culling up all the links has proved to be a much bigger task than I had planned on.)

But other than that, when it comes to Great Debates, I pretty much got nothin’.

[QUOTE=IvoryTowerDenizen;11524753Hi Liberal!

Well, hello there, IvoryTowerDenizen! I do recognize your name, and like you, I appreciate people who take a position and express it, even when I disagree with them. SentientMeat and I are as diametrically opposed as you could possibly get when it comes to the nature of reality and existence. But we respect one another so much, and understand one another so much, that we could make each other’s arguments. And do them justice.

I’m reserved by nature also. I have a melancholy temperament, which means that I don’t want to be the guy standing on the table and dancing with a lamp shade on his head while everyone stomps, and claps, and cheers him on. I want to be the guy sitting in the corner by myself, taking mental notes about the surroundings. I used to worry about other people’s opinions of me, but for some reason I don’t anymore. I think it’s a combination of being here so long, getting older, and taking Tranxene.

I had one of those once. It was called “Ack the Martian”, and of course the answer to every question was some variation of “Ack ack ACK ACK ack ACK!”. Then someone posted a reference to Slim Whitman’s “Indian Love Call”. That ended that. And then a passing mod said something like, “I get the reference. But this thread is too mundane even for MPSIMS.” And thankfully, s/he closed it.

Res ipsa loquitur. Especially if it says “ack”.

Hey Lib - you were kind to me when I was a total n00b, and being stomped on by Monty for asking some LDS-related questions that he felt marked me as an anti-LDS crackpot, and I always appreciated that. I have watched your various blowouts with some sadness as I always found your posts interesting/intriguing, and never understood the bile with which some people reacted to you (or you to them for what its worth). I’ve been posting less and less over the last two and a bit years*, as very little I have to say seems worth the effort of actually putting it down on (electronic) paper, and now I find that I’m reading less and less too, as I fail to even muster up that amount of enthusiasm, but your name is one of a select few that makes me stop and take a look, even if it is just to watch people moan about you

Keep Well,
Grim

*God, has it been that long already
