Thanks for returning the kindness, Grim. The time has flown by, but it seems like only yesterday that I stood with you against accusations that I felt were absurd. And yeah, the blowups were stupid. But life sucks and then you die. Hopefully, you learn something along the way. Glad you took the time to post.
I only read this because I saw the Pit thread first. I had a thread a while back closed because it was beyond mundane, and pointless would have been an understatement of the grandest proportions. This one here - not even close.
So yeah, hi. Seen you, read you, waiting for the movie. Remember, mundane and pointless are not always bad things. Look at all the money network sitcoms have made.
Really?
I hadn’t noticed.
Yeah, you’re right. It seems to be (for the most part) a place that people weary of the bullshit in other forums can come to escape from. But it just feels funny butting into discussions with people I hardly know. Hence, this thread.
And I did hope that other people who don’t frequent this forum much might come in and say somethihg about themselvesl. But that could take some time, for obvious reasons.
Hey Lib. My post count doesn’t begin to rival yours, but I feel like I’ve been called a troll and other - cough - descriptive terms about as many times!
Congrats on the weight loss. I am struggling with that myself and am held back by the fact I can’t really exercise. sigh. Well, I’ve lost 15 lbs so far, so it’s a start, but it took seven months!
Well, that’s a damn good start. I don’t know what you weigh, but the heavier you are the harder it is to do exercise of any kind. Even walking hurts or takes the breath away. Just remember that today is a new day. Eat as little as you healthily can, and do as much as you physically can (at least enough to make you sweat a little). But do see a doctor first. Sometimes, there can be medical considerations about the whole thing, including a state of mind. Hang in there! PM me if you need any help.
Oh, I can’t exercise due to multiple medical considerations. Nor really eat all that little, due to chronic stomach issues and the need to take medications with food. :smack:
Ah well, eventually I’ll lose that other 40 pounds…
Hi, Lib,
Hi everyone else.
This Forum is actually one of the most important parts of the Straight Dope. I do wish that those who feel the need to contend with perceived adversaries could limit themselves to invitations to an appropriate venue, but then, my wishes are not vested with any particular importance.
Take a step further today than you did yesterday, unless you cannot. If you cannot, then take every step you can. But in any case, look around as you walk, and enjoy the view.
Tris
P. S. And if that won’t work, imagine a view, and describe it to us here.

An introductory thread, eh?
So I just joined, like, two days ago. The thing, though, is that I’ve been reading these forums for like an embarrassingly long time before deciding to join…so is it weird that I kind of already know who you are?
Anyway. I’m Maiira, and I’m the n00biest of n00bs. I plan on building my nest in Cafe Society, IMHO, and MPSIMS. And maybe I’ll pop into the Pit if I’m feeling brave. I’ll poke at it with a long stick, anyway.
Welcome to the Dope, Maiira.
Welcome to the Boards, Maiira!
I recommend against poking anything in the Pit – there ain’t no stick long enough to make that a good idea.
Yo, Tris!
Hi, Maiira. Those forums are usually pretty safe. Watch out for reality show threads in Cafe Society, though. You don’t want to support the one most people dont like. It can get… let’s call it heated.
Hey Lib --I can call you Lib, right?-- I have a question. I mix a lot of cocktails and have learned, as many of us have learned, that Angostura Bitters are the solution to all your foul drink problems. Cheap bourbon? Add light rocks and bitters. Poorly mixed gin and tonic? Add bitters. Beer turned flat and awful from being left out overnight, and now has a fly in it as a bonus? Add bitters. I ran into Blood Orange Bitters some years ago, and while the flavor is obviously different, it has a similar drink-saving effect. It is now a proud occupant of my home bar, and makes Bourbon Night wonderful. The problem is I’ve found Blood Orange Bitters make everything better except gin. What gives? Regular Bitters and gin are fantastic, but it’s not working out so well with the Blood Orange.
Am I adding too much? I usually only add a shake or two. Is it the wrong gin? I typically use Beefeater or Hendrick’s. Sometimes I use Plymouth. Is it that I simply do not like Blood Orange Bitters and gin? That doesn’t make any sense to me, but here we are.
Advice?
head spins a little
So anyway, hello Liberal. I of course have noticed you points to join date but rarely foray into the forums you frequent. Well, I read them much more than I post, which is my general habit anyway. I enjoy many discussions in Cafe about film, literature and burning questions revolving around 70s sitcoms, which is why Sampiro and I are BFF.
I’m a 40-something writer, mother of three, suburban Roman Catholic semi-free spirit/mother hen. Glad to hear you’re happier with your life and you’re getting healthier physically!
I ignore “forums” and click “New Posts” and jump into the interesting ones.
I suppose my appetite for a strongly worded opinion is responsible, but mostly I end up in GD or IMHO or BBQ, with an occasional foray into GQ.
Stay out of my liquor cabinet.
Quickly, Lib, I’m going home in roughly one hour and need to know what to do this little bitters dilemma.
