People who grew up with the Cheerios in the Yellow box. Do you still eat them?

Not that I find it terribly odd, but I find when I look in my breakfast cabinet at home I see something I have seen for the better part of 35 years…a Yellow box of Cheerios. It is a no-brainer when i go down the cereal isle at the supermarket, that I reach out - ‘lower shelf’ - grab a yellow box and throw it in my carriage. I’ve done it for year…

You?

Unfortunately we have to import them from the US of A. They only have the honey Cheerios here…They are nice, but, normal Cheerios are the choice of toddlers (and parents that don’t want sticky hands). I love Cheerios when I crave cereal…I like pouring honey on them so that they clump together into a carbo-bomb slightly wetted by milk.

I’ve been eating Cheerios from the yellow box for more than 20 years. It’s probably the only food brand that I’m really loyal to. The only other cereal I eat is raisin bran, and that’s only occasionally.

Not only do I still eat 'em, I still eat 'em like a toddler. No milk, with my fingers. It pleases me to alternate with sips of Coke.

I had some this morning, in fact. I can’t say that I’ve been steadily eating them since I was a kid, but I’ve certainly gone through Cheerio phases. I’m in one now, I think. There’s really nothing like them. The generic version is an affront.

Of course I still eat them! Life just wouldn’t be the same without Cheerios!

In addition to the regular, in-a-bowl-with-milk method, they’re also really good on peanut butter sammiches. With honey. This is a treat I discovered when I had braces and wasn’t allowed to have crunchy peanut butter, and it’s still yummy.

Actually, I’m a little confused by the OP title. Are there Cheerios that aren’t in a big yellow box?

I think he specified the yellow box since they’re so associated with it. Like Raisin Bran in the purple box.

I buy them reguarly, mainly because oat is one of the best grains you can eat. I buy Cheerios and spoon size shredded wheat almost exclusively for me and my children, the latter because it’s almost the only cereal you can buy with no added anything. Check the boxes. I was appalled to discover generic cheerios contain added high fructose corn syrup. (As does Prego and most popular brands of spaghetti sauce. It’s rampant.)

There’s a bunch of different Cheerios. The most notable are the Honey Nut ones, Frosted ones and Apple Cinnamon ones.

I still eat them. More as a snack, though, because I don’t like them in milk. I’ll eat them instead of chips, while watching TV.

One of my favorite breakfasts. I don’t put sugar on my Cheerios, but if I have a banana then I like to slice one up over them before I add the milk. Fresh strawberries are also good in Cheerios, as are fresh peaches.

Yes. It is my cereal of choice. If I’m really trippin’ down memory lane, I’ll duck over to produce and buy me a nice bunch of bananas to slice on it. And those bananas had better be lightly freckled. That’s the way…uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it, uh-huh, uh-huh…

Slight hijack: Most (but not all) Ragu sauces do **not **contain HFCS. They do have a bit of sugar, but so did my Nona’s sauce, so I accept that.

As for the OP: Yep, still buying and enjoying Cheerios.

Haven’t had them in years, but I did grow up on them. But then, I almost never eat breakfast and when I do it’s rarely cereal.

Mmmmm, Cheerios in the yellow box! I love 'em. Both dry, as a snack, and with milk. I also like the Yogurt Burst Cheerios, in the white box, but not any of the other varieties.

But do you add sugar (when you’re eating them out of a bowl with milk?). I couldn’t believe that my kids (now teenagers) have never added sugar to their cereal - I couldn’t stand it so bland. (I make sure they’re watching when I pile on the sugar).

And another debate: milk first, then sugar; or sugar first, then milk?

Your Cheerios thread reminded me of something I noticed the other day when in the supermarket.

Trix went back to being multi-colored balls! It was balls way back, then in the early 90’s (I think,) they went to shapes of the fruit they “in theory” tasted like. But they are back to balls now!

I discovered this oat cereal. It’s a very tasty substitute.

I am a Cheerios fan, but when they came out with the multigrain ones, I abandoned the plain ones. Multigrain are even tastier.

Rather than add sugar, I use my Dad’s trick of mixing Cheerios with a sweeter cereal; Golden Grahams was a favourite but I’m not sure it’s still around.

It’s abll about “the unmistakable taste of those unsinkable O’s”.
I ate them every day when I was a kid. And then I didn’t in high school/college/early 20’s. And now I do again.
