Lemme get this straight: you want everyone to be employed, right? So having them learn to speak English so they can be productive and not a drain on the system is something you desire. Yet you rail against NCLB, which requires them to pass the standardized tests in English, and thus, they must be taught English somehow. It seems as if you are running counter to your own professed interests. If you want something, like non-English speakers to learn English so they can get jobs, then you have to pay for it. Or you can stop bitching about people who are unemployable. Society considers an educated population an investment, a public good if you will, and so fronts the money for it. It seems that you want the benefit of that investment without contributing to the cost incurred to make it happen. That is simply not how the world works.

If your county is loaded with illegals, they must have an ESL program. If they don’t, you should be able to prove that easily with a cite. Likewise, if they are teaching all students down to the level of illiterate non-English speakers, surely you’d be able to find an article referring to this deplorable situation.
Your complaints about paying for this are also quite illogical. You want people to work, but don’t want to participate in funding any programs that will help make them employable. Seems like you want the world to conform with your wishes without do anything yourself to contribute to the outcome. No wonder you are so unhappy.

I’ve been intentionally avoiding this thread because I don’t really fall on either side of the argument. I don’t like children and I don’t want to be around them, ever. Unfortunately, I’m at the age where most of my friends are having kids and so I’m forced to deal with them.
Because I like my friends more then I dislike their kids I invite them to parties and buy them presents and treat them well by any standards, but I am forever grateful to get away from them even when they haven’t been screaming or destroying things, which is pretty rare. It just takes an inordinate amount of my energy to deal with things that don’t do anything interesting and nothing interesting can be done with them.
I plan on having kids and I plan to follow my Dad’s path, he also dislikes kids, which was basically to have minimal contact with his kids with out stressing his marriage until they are old enough to be interesting (12 or so). For the record I have a great relationship with my Dad and so does my sister. So I think I should be able to do this and still raise decent people who I can hopefully avoid disliking too much.

Well, several reasons, I really like teenagers and watching little people (teenagers) become real people; also I have some pretty awesome genetics that I would like to pass on. I have a great relationship with my dad and would like to have a similar relationship with someone when he passes and since friendships are different from a father/son relationship I don’t see any other way to have one.
I really could care less about workers or having someone take care of me when I’m old. I’ve made my preparations unless I can’t walk should be able to take care of myself even if all of the children die off. Hell my great uncle is 95 and runs a small farm all by himself.
At times, I’ve not had the time to post for two days and the thing doesn’t die. If you don’t like it, why are you posting in here?
I post here for the reason I stated earlier - it’s something to amuse me while I am waiting for other things to get done, such as laundry, a long upload, whatever. If I actually cared what these nutjobs have to say I’d have freaked out and left a long time ago.
