Why do you assume I’m “one of the few”? Has it never occurred to you that it’s the loudest fans, and the most stereotypical, who get the coverage? While we who quietly congratulate the winners get drowned out by the few, the proud, the morons?
Yes, that was a typo on my part - I meant “late in the game.”
Yeah, I’m sick of hearing this stupid fucking running-up-the-score bullshit in the goddamn NFL. If you’re playing professional sports, there is no running up the score, in my book. You play to win, you play to kill. There are plenty of good reasons to dislike the Pats. This is not one of them.
The only reason I wanted the Pats to win this year is so I could stop hearing about the '72 Dolphins. (If only my Bears didn’t have to drop one in '85.) That, and I kinda enjoy seeing a team so powerful that it knocks the shit out of any and all opposition (72-10 Bulls, I’m looking at you!) I enjoy the perfection and the excellence, and I don’t mind a little bravado. I don’t think the Pats were as arrogant and assholish as everyone seems to think they are. They just seemed like a solid team that could have used a bit of better PR and a coach with a warmer personality.
Not to mention that people impelled by envy and spite will see what they want to see, will interpret everything in the light most favorable to their bias. I’d bet if you took a random sampling of several teams’ fans’ behavior, masked the identity of the teams they were rooting for, and challenged the Pats haters to pick out the New England fans, they’d fail miserably.
You Patriots haters currently wallowing in loudly proclaimed glee, have you considered these points?

I have no football team (thank you Bill Bidwell) and therefore no bias. I saw very clearly one team being disrespectful and showing poor sportsmanship by running up the score over and over all season.
You can choose to believe that at the pro level there’s no such thing as poor sportsmanship or running up the score, but to think that’s no reason to hate them as a fan or that NFL players and coaches don’t care about that is ludicrous.
You don’t think any personnel on the Dolphins or Bills or Redskins that watched the Patriots keep their starters in and throw deep and embarrass them will remember that next year? I was flabbergasted that Brady didn’t get badly hurt on a cheap penalty in some of those late blowouts this season.
How about making a point to go find Anthony Smith after throwing a touchdown to jaw in his face? Any great quarterback wouldn’t bother for a moment with a no-name D back. Brady just couldn’t believe the temerity of someone suggesting that they might beat the Patriots, so he had to go show what a prissy little cunt he is by squaring off with him in the end zone.
Speaking of which, here’s a fun little song from the WDVE morning show here in Pittsburgh:
Look about three quarters of the way down the page for:
Tom Brady is a C#nt.mp3
I guarantee you’ll find yourself later on singing, “I’m of the thinkin’ Tom Brady’s a cunt.”
Speaking as a Yankee fan, I am tempted to ask permission to use your first line as my signature and I have not used any signature in over a year.
New England was great this year. The Giants defense rose up and beat them. Our offense played well enough to win and made one of the most amazing last minute drives in Football’s history. The front four of the Giants lifted the team to a level rarely seen in the last 15 years by any defense.

You are more than welcome to that sentence, my friend.
Don’t you wish every fan on either side of this great Super Bowl would behave the way we’re doing it? You’re one Giant fan it warms my heart to congratulate: You were never dismissive of the Patriots leading up to the game, never dismissive of their fans, and you deserve every scrap of satisfaction you take from your team’s victory.
Yes, and fuck him too
. I hate the Giants also, I just hate the Pats more.
Oh, well, fair enough then.
Ah, tripping down Celtics memory lane: Cousy, Russell, Heinsohn, Havlicek… Bird, Parish, McHale…
Hang high the championship banners!
Not an assumption - it seems every fan I have had personal contact with (so, no, I am not just pulling this out of thin air) has been one of those morons. I’m even more surrounded by them living in Orlando (Boston, Jr.). I have never had a Boston fan of any team admit to defeat without screaming, yelling, blaming and crying about it.
Unfortunately, those few, proud morons have clouded my judgment against the lot of you, I guess. You can blame them for my skewed view on the New England fan base.
For the record, I dislike both the Giants and Patriots equally - but I will always root for the underdog.
Well, there’s the problem right there – didn’t you know we ship the dregs out of state and only keep the high-quality fans locally? Hate to say it, but Florida gets the dregs of the dregs – being so far South, you know, force of gravity and all that. Plus, our outplacements seem to fit in so well there.
Of course not. He saves his worst vitriol to direct at his own team.
This is a scumbag reason to hate the Patriots. Seriously, you’re taking them to task for honoring the loss of one of their own? Lowest of the low.
Because when I was wee, little Timmy McPatlover in his Bledsoe jersey made fun of Favre, my hero. In 12 years, the loathing has never ebbed.
For me and many other giants fans I know, the pats were always sort of our “other” team. This year was tougher, because of all the controversy, but I still ended up rooting for them in a few close games. I didn’t feel the hate in week 17 (although beating an undefeated team is always something to root for) and I didn’t feel the hate during the bowl.
In fact, I almost feel a little bit sad. This loss could potentially be a devastating scar for many of the players, that haunts them for years or for life. In case you think I’m exaggerating, go look for interviews with former players from the Baltimore Colts that lost in SBIII. I saw at least one say that when they later came back to the superbowl and won, it was tarnished and that they couldn’t enjoy it. The expectations for this year’s Patriots may have been even higher than that, and while I’m a giants fan I almost regret the shocking defeat that had to happen for them to win.
But just a little.
