Perfect Albums

Stones - Let It Bleed
Zepplin - III
Beatles - Abbey Road
ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
Beck - Odelay

Yeah, that first Melissa Etheridge album is phenomenal. Pity about all the follow ups.

Emmet Swimming - Arlington to Boston
Cowboy Mouth - Are You With Me?
Rolling Stones - Beggar’s Banquet

Rush - Moving Pictures

Every song is fantastic, and all of them have been played live. Six of the seven songs on the album have been played on multiple tours, and “Tom Sawyer” is arguably their most recognizable song.

thanks chaps (meaning both female and male posters) …
Anyone got any classical music albums to put in the list, I have been trying to find a perfect Carmina Burana for ages but never found one where the orchestration, the solo musicians, and the singers are all faultless.
I realise that I missed off my list

Tricky : Maxinquaye
– an incredible soundscape, filled with violence and beauty

… please carry on

A new one to add to the list:

Damien Rice - O

AC/DC - “Back in Black”
Byrds - “The Notorious Byrd Brothers”
King Crimson - “Discipline”
George Thorogood & the Destroyers- “Maverick”
The Who - “Who’s Next”
Yes- “Close to the Edge”

Jeff Buckley - Grace. Far and away the best album ever produced.

U2 - Joshua Tree

REM - Automatic for the People

I am a pretty big Floyd fan from way back, and I think it’s certainly the case that the majority of the albums are intended as self-contained concept pieces (at least while Syd or Roger was involved). They all hang together pretty well IMHO, and certainly DSOM and WYWH which have both been mentioned here, are classics of the first order.

However (and I strongly suspect I am in the minority here) my absolute favourite, shining perfection from end to end flowing through my headphones (especially as I walked around my neighborhood at midnight as an angst-filled teen in the late 80’s, smoking cigarettes and frowning mightily) is The ever lovin’ Final Cut.

also:

Animals, Pink Floyd
Shakespeare, my Butt, Lowest of the Low
Finnegan’s Tongue, War Wagon

Soundgarden-“Superunknown”
Boston 1
Blue Oyster Cult- “Specters”
AC/DC-“Back in Black”/“Highway to hell”
Alan Parsons Project- “Tales of mystery and imagination”
Kiss-“Dressed to kill”

To name some not yet mentioned:

Love Over Gold, Dire Straits
Two Against Nature, Steely Dan
Blue Pacific, Michael Franks
Change in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, Jimmy Buffett
Poetic Champions Composed, Van Morrison
Hourglass, James Taylor

Legacy of Brutality by the Misfits

Mercutio, my friend, I admire your love and enthusiasm for Operation Ivy, however, their cover of “One of These Days” disqualifies it…sad really. But a record that gets 26/27 on the perfecttion scale.

Perfect albums:
Elvis Costello- My Aim is True
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon
Beatles- Revolver
Operation Ivy- Hectic* (so what if it’s only an EP, it’s 6 great tracks)

Now, see, I was going to diqualify that album on the basis of “Big City”. I like “One Of These Days” but Megadeth did it better. “Big City” is just a crappy song. It must be something about the title. the Dead Boys’ Big City sucked too.

Anyway, and I’ve said it here before, Op Ivy loses cool points for influencing all those lame “Ska Punk” bands of the late 90s, which ruined the whole genere, and caused the glut that made Moon Ska records go out of business.

My vote for a 'Fits album would go to Ten Hits From Hell, even though it was never really released. The mixes on that album are awesome, Plus (at least on the version I have), they actually left Bobby Steeles (who is a million times better than Doyle) guitar playing on it. I think thats one of the reasons the album never came out even though the Cds and Lps were pressed. Jerry didn’t want Bobby to get proper credit or royalties IIRC. Greedy bastard. Danzig should get together with Bobby and start an alternative Misfits, and at least TRY to restore the legacy of that band.

Since this thread is bounced, and since I’ve found IT!

For me at least…

The perfect Carmina Burana, is the Chicago Symphoney version conducted by James Levine.

At last I have a modern (no analog hiss and crackle) version with good pacing and fantastic singers throughout.

Another perfect album must be
Tricky : Nearly God this album perfects the juxtaposition of beautiful female vocals against a dark and menacing techno background.
