Marky Mark dies after getting out of the boat, although it’s assumed and not actually shown. All except one of the helo rescue crew survives. They never found any bodies from the boat or the helo crewman.
The movie was based on a true story, but did not accurately depict what happened that week. No one knows for sure what happened to the Andrea Gail, except that she was lost with no survivors found. Small items of debris were located. That’s it. The US Coast Guard and the Air National Guard were not looking for the Gail, they were out there on separate cases. The ANG helo crew with refueler were trying to assist a lone Japanese sailor foundering on his sail boat (not the Satori as depicted in the movie) They had to abort once on scene due to wx conditions. They could not refuel on the way back and ditched. One crewman was never found. The lone sailor was later found alive and well by a merchant ship. The other 4 ANG crewmen were picked up by the Coast Guard Cutter Tamaroa, who earlier had attempted a rescue of the Satori crew. The Tamaroa suffered damage to their RHIB in the attempt, and Satori’s crew was eventualy rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter, with the RHIB crew. I believe the Satori was first spotted by a CG Falcon jet. IIRC, the search for the Andrea Gail did not begin until well after the storm, for no one knew if anything at all had happened to them. The book was pretty good, the movie sucked.
