But can’t we just a little better picking these threadspottings and Weird Earls?
- Enterprise vs. Imperial Star Destroyer?
- Paleo-Man or Jean-Luc Picard?
Is that the best available on SDMB? The best on the Internet?
Harsh!

Wait, I’m eating a potato chip that looks a little like Oklahoma. That should be a winner in both categories. Can I submit?
I’m sorry. I do appreciate the forums and the new additions. Just whining.
Ok Bill,
As the nominator of the Enterprise v. Star Destroyer, I have to say that it is among the best on the SDMB, and indeed the internet.
I don’t know that you’ve taken the time to read the thread, but it shows some of the best of what we do here, use facts, statistic and supported hypotheses to address a matter of potential debate. Yes we are dealing with fictional worlds here, but the participants in the debates took the established physical, psychological and technlogical attributes of those worlds and compared them in a rigorous manner. The level of debate, and the extent to which the arguments were based on the “facts” of the fictional worlds, was higher than most of the debates we’ve had on “serious” subjects.
And besides, after several pages of serious debate, the participants went off onto a hilarous tangent – scenarios about what would happen in such an encounter.
The thread, as preposterous as it is, shows what we do best, serious factual debate and creative whimsey.
Bildo,
I have participated in the thread, and I must make an addition to the above.( Oh, BTW, aren’t you an unapologetic SW geek? As a ST geek, I gotta tell you, law school or no, you’re all wet.:))
HOW CAN YOU BELITTLE ALL THAT WE HAVE DONE TO ADVANCE THE CAUSE OF NERDS EVERYWHERE IN THIS THREAD??? Star Trek Rules man! I got a slide rule here in my pocket protector that proves it!!
Actually, Dave, I haven’t participated on that thread at all. I saw that I was hopefully outclassed the first time I opened it. I just nominated it for its geeky brilliance.
Besides, I’m no SW apologist – I’m rooting for the ST side in the debate. I’m just not technically knowledgable enough about either side enough to make any effective arguments.
