Periglaction

I was wondering what are the benefits of living in periglacial areas, such as N. Canada or Siberia. Because their must be many people who live in such areas. Can anyone please give me some information on what oppurtunites are avaliable, or a link to a website

Assuming a repressive regime ran your country and you displeased them, where praytell, would they exile you to? I would consider this a benefit.

Just some ideas . . .

I would live there if I were a scientist doing research on local flora, fauna, atmospheric conditions, culture, or whatever.

I would live there if I were born there and didn’t know where else to go or didn’t have the means to move.

I would live there to escape the noise, pollution, or door-to-door salesmen of more temperate regions.

I would live there if the military high command of my country sent me there.

I would live there if the president of my oil company or mining company relocated me there.

Advantages? Not a lot of people. Polar bears are cute. It’s dark for half the year. Good conditions for ice sculpture. You should get your presents first at Christmas.

I’m sure it’s said that living way up there has health advantages of some sort . . . people are always saying that such and such a place is good for such and such a condition. I suppose there could be economic advantages for certain people as well, but I don’t know who those people would be . . . I’m sure North Polers have certain needs or desires that a clever entrepreneur could exploit somehow.
