Peroneal tendon subluxation

Hi, all! Can anyone tell me about peroneal tendon subluxation? I’d been feeling pain and a snapping on the outside of my ankle bone for a week or so, but since it’s been holiday time, I’ve been busy. I wrapped it in an ace bandage and carried on. It hurt like a mofo this morning, so I did a little online research and learned that peroneal tendon subluxation seems to match what’s going on.

Anybody have this before? Did non-surgical treatment help? I really, REALLY don’t want surgery anywhere at any time for any reason. I am such a coward. :frowning:

I’ve read the medical sites, but would like to know the real world application and what actually happens. Like tests, treatments, physical therapy. And if it hurts. Thanks in advance, my dopefriends.

I’m not sure any anecdotal comments here would be more substantive than what you can find with ordinary web articles.

The approach I’d be inclined to take is to have a qualified specialist make a firm diagnosis. Once you know exactly what’s going on, then it’s time to decide what therapeutic options are best for you. A recommendation of surgical repair is not a commitment on your part to undertake the procedure.

If you are pretty sure your diagnosis is correct, try to start with an orthopedist specializing in care of the foot and ankle. There is a time and convenience saving by going right to the most qualified opinion first, in my experience. YMMV.

Chief Pedant, you are absolutely right. I read a few medical sites and hit the panic button, which was premature at minimum. Thanks for responding and talking me down. I do appreciate it.
