Peroxide and pets (odd.)

Couple weird things…first my cat LOVES the taste of peroxide. I don’t know what her issue is but when I bring out the bottle to clean a wound or whatever she goes nuts and tries to drink it. Can someone explain this to me?

Another strange thing I have noticed is that while human ear wax makes peroxide fizz up, this doesent happen with dog ear wax. Why?

Some cats are strange. One of my three loves to lick rags that have rubbing alcohol on them. The other two can’t get away from it fast enough. They are individuals.

Congratulations, you have a strange cat.

Who should probably be kept away from any significant quantity of peroxide.

You can give the pets some safely. The highly concentrated stuff can react quickly with organic material, so that would kill her, and possible dissolve the flesh. remember the highest concentrated stuff reacts quickly and exothermically, so it can explode. Leave the rocket fuel alone.

I give some of the diluted stuff to the cat occasionally. I can’t say if it helps her. it doesn’t hurt her.

I know the owner of a greenhouse that uses a diluted solution on younger plants.

I have been using a 3% on some potted plants to clean up the soil. It kills off the fungus, damp off, and other harmful micro organisms. The stinky lake algae smell is gone from the christmas cactus.

It’s up to you to look up the information to decide what doses to give. Here is a link to one site. A quick look at the possible uses, make your own decision.

We use peroxide to induce vomiting, people usually have a hard time giving it to cats because they don’t like it. So yeah, you have a weird cat.

Holy crap. I didn’t know people did that on purpose (except to make them vomit). Is this serviing a function like chorline to kill bacteria?

Anyone know the answer to my second question, why the dog earwax does not fizz.

I’m confused. Do you give hydrogen peroxide to your cat for her health, or does she pick some up accidentally when you clean her water dish?

ETA: No idea why your dog’s earwax fizzes but yours doesn’t. Mine does.

Hydrogen peroxide for washing mouth wounds is a 3 percent solution, which you spit out.

The cat water solution is a .09 percent solution. It’s safe and is produced naturally at a low concentration in water on a sunny day. The cat only drinks water from the basement sub pump otherwise. You’ll have to ask the cat why.

I wasn’t trying to imply that very low concentrations were dangerous. I was just curious why you would bother, considering that it adds an extra step in pet care and doesn’t have any benefit. If the cat won’t drink the water otherwise, then I guess that’s a good enough reason. Though I can’t imagine that their is any smellable amount left after a few minutes.
