Persephone's Bees

Yahoo Music turned me on to them. Their first single (“City of Love”) was also on a cell phone ad, I think, but I’m not sure which phone. I bought the album two weeks ago and it’s been in the car CD player, ripped on my computer and on USB jump drive for listening at work. I love love love it! And what’s cool, my 7yo son and 5yo daughter alos like it. It was really strange/cool/unexmpected when my son was humming the chorus when he got dressed for school one morning. And It makes me feel like a young hipster that I like a new band.

Anyone else into them? Well, you should be!

No one is interested in what I like? Well!

You just don’t know know what you’re missing.

Describe it?

It’s almost pure pop, lots of retro organ, and some nifty hooks with some rougher edged guitars on a couple songs. The lead singer Angelina Moysov is Russian and her accent is apparent in interesting (to me) ways on occasion. The website talks about the influence of gypsy and Russian folk music has in her songwriting. I don’t hear that as I know nothing about gypsy or Russian folk music, but it certainly has a tasty touch of flavor that is different from the usual stuff I hear on the radio.

Okay, I’ve listened to “Nice Day” by them. They remind me of someone…actually someones… kind of like a cross between Laika (the vocals) and Ladytron (the music). It’s not bad

They played City of Love on our local indie station, WIUX. I thought it was quite good. Very unique.
